My group of friends together at last

Hello Kitty Tissue Box from Amazon

I just reviewed Speak which is a book about rape. I read it after my friend Naomi told me she'd been raped, because I want to understand how she feels as well as I possibly can. Touching a woman against her will is never ever right and it's surprising how easily people judge. They don't think it's a big deal or she must have provoked it somehow because she's pretty and so on. It hurts me to hear that and I hope nobody will ever be mean to my friend like that again. It's worse enough already that she had to go through the assault itself. I don't understand those people and honestly I want to hit them. Naomi is shy and silent now, she's so serious and withdrawn. I know some of it will pass, but she will never be the same as she was before.
Fortunately Lizzy managed to make things right again, so we could be complete for the first time in a long while. I love my group of friends and we've underlined once more that no man should ever come between us. We all had a sleepover at Naomi's childhood home. She's still living with her parents and she feels a lot better when she isn't alone at night. We've all taken turns to stay with her over the past couple of weeks, but this time it wasn't only for support, we also had a bit of fun. I hope that's the first step to healing again for Naomi.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

The first ten lies they tell you in high school.
"Speak up for yourself--we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big fat lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, so now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, she becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back, refuses to be silent, and thereby achieves a measure of vindication. In Laurie Halse Anderson's powerful novel, an utterly believable heroine with a bitterly ironic voice delivers a blow to the hypocritical world of high school. She speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while demonstrating the importance of speaking up for oneself.

I borrowed the summary from Amazon. I think Speak is a book that should be read by as many young women and men as possible. It's a book about rape. After Melinda's been raped she feels very depressed. Her parents aren't the most loving an sensitive people, all of her friends have abandoned her and she's lonely and alone. Things are going downhill in school and it's taking a long time before people around her see that something's going on. Instead they judge.
Speak is a very realistic story in my opinion. It's never right when someone touches you against your will and speaking about it is important. It helps to tell the story, to talk about it and to heal. A lot of rape victims never tell their secret, because they can't or they're too afraid. It takes courage to do so. Speak shows that even if nothing seems to be right anymore there is a way to survive. It's a book of support and of empathy which is very much needed. Speak is a beautiful and heartbreaking story that should be on the curriculum in every high school.

Lavender loves Couleur Caramel

A lot of countries have their own Couleur Caramel shop. I love this brand! The eye shadow is subtle and very pretty and nothing can beat their lip products. I'm a big fan. Even though everything is quite pricey, for me it's worth it. All Couleur Caramel products are organic which is a big plus. They have an environment friendly way of packaging which I like as well.

The Spook's Nightmare by Joseph Delaney

The Spook's NightmareThe Spook's Nightmare
The Spook, Tom and Alice return from Greece to find the County under siege – and the Spook’s home burnt to the ground. With his precious library of knowledge destroyed, they seek refuge on the nearby island of Mona. But with Mona in the thrall of a twisted Shaman there is little respite from hostility or denizens of the dark. And as Alice dodges the ever-tightening net of the island’s witch hunters, a more deadly enemy emerges...

Bony Lizzie, freshly-escaped from the Spook’s bonds, has grand ambitions: to take for herself the throne of isle. She has harnessed the services of a tunnel-dwelling buggane, an evil creature which thrives on stealing the animas, or life force, from its unsuspecting victims. With the buggane as her secret weapon can she become an all-powerful Witch Queen?

I borrowed the summary from Joseph Delaney's website. When there's no house in Chipenden to stay in anymore the Spook, Tom and Alice have to flee and they go to the island Mona. They aren't welcome there, most of the people they meet want to get rid of them. The island has some dark secrets they need to unravel and there's Bony Lizzy, who has escaped from the Spook's home, to deal with, so they can't go anywhere for a while.
Tom is captured over and over again, will someone come to his rescue or does he need to rescue himself? It isn't easy for him to stay out of the hands of the enemy. Tom has to fight some cruel creatures and he almost doesn't make it. There are few allies, but he and the Spook need the ones they do have very much to fight all evil that has been housing on the island. This book is more cruel and harsh than the previous books in the series and the creatures of the dark are really gross. Just the way I like it, another great Spook's book.

My Lookfantastic Favorites

I love Lookfantastic! I've selected some items that are on my wish list. I wish I could own all of this!

A great dinner with Edward in my beautiful Carven dress

I wore this wonderful Carven dress yesterday evening when I went out for dinner. Edward invited me to go to a restaurant with him. His wife is visiting her sister in Italy and he told me he could use the company. I don't know about that, I think he wanted me to have a nice evening out. He always notices when I'm upset.
When I told him about my talk with Ben he called him when I went to the toilet. I think Edward has taken a bit of a father role in my life, because why else would he have done that? I see it as a compliment though. And we had a great time together. He told me so many funny jokes that I couldn't stop laughing. It was exactly what I needed.

Ben and Ben and Ben again

When I'm having a Wednesday date with Ben I always try to wear a special dress. This time I chose an embroidered skater dress from Asos. I wanted to look sweet to soften the blow of what I was about to tell him later in the evening.
At first Samuel and I made our usual round through the library. Ben told me on Monday he wanted to test me and that I was allowed to see Samuel again. I thought it was an April Fool's Day joke, but it appears to be true. I wonder how I ended up dating such a strange man. I read a book with Samuel and later at their home I continued teaching him how to read. It was really great to spend time with him again. Which was what I did the entire time, giving my attention to Samuel and not to Ben. I didn't do that intentionally, but I felt betrayed and hurt.
Ben prepared a simple dinner for us. He made a casserole and yogurt ice cream with fruit for desert. After dinner we played a board game with Samuel until it was time for him to go to bed. Then I could finally have my talk with Ben. I told him I hoped he would never pull a stunt like that again and that I wasn't amused. I'm still angry, but I think he understood what I meant. I told him that it would be nice if he'd start thinking about my feelings for a change too and that if he doesn't do that I won't stay with him. He agreed to do so and hopefully our next date will be better.
He called me today to tell me that he's sorry, that was a sweet phone call.

The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is—a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.
Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

I borrowed the summary from Amazon. The Calling is the second book in the Darkness is Rising series. In this book Maya and her friends are traveling somewhere unknown in a helicopter. When it crashes they find themselves in a forest and need to try to stay out of the hands of their enemies. They have to get out of the area, but before that happens they have a long journey ahead of them.
I love how Kelley Armstrong can put so much adrenaline into her stories. This book was an action packed story from beginning to end. Maya and her friends are on the run which is the perfect setting for a lot of unexpected things to happen. I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to find out more about Maya's situation and the people who were after her. I'm a big fan of books like this and love it when I'm constantly being kept on the edge of my seat.

More books I got from my Amazon gift card!

I received my big box of books today! I already shared the first half of my order with you and this is the second. I can't wait to start reading!
I also found out who sent me the gift card. It was from my aunt and uncle who wanted to surprise me. My aunt forgot to sign the card and now the mystery has been solved. To be sure I asked her about the rest of my anonymous mail, but she didn't have a clue. Neither have I as the sender hasn't revealed himself or herself yet.

Dinner at Jada's mansion!

Yesterday was a regular Tuesday dinner night. At least that's what I thought. Jada's parents are on holiday at the moment, so she invited us to have dinner at her place. They live in a mansion and it's huge. Jada's parents are rich and apparently so is Jada when she's living under their roof. I never knew. They have several staff members, but Jada's mother loves cooking which is where Jada learned. I learned more things about her like her name is a mix of Jacqueline and Danielle. She showed us her room which is bigger than my apartment. There is a whirlpool in her bathroom and she has a luxurious shower. I couldn't believe my eyes. Still she thinks of herself as a pretty simple girl. I don't know about that, but she's very nice and she's a great cook. She usually makes something Asian and this time she made chicken and shrimp laksa using a We Heart Food recipe. For desert she made mango cheese cakes using a Swapna's Cuisine recipe. As usual the food was delicious and we stayed until midnight.
The girls think I should stop seeing Ben if he keeps messing around with me. Maybe they're right, but I like him so much. I do know I've got to talk to him as soon as possible.

Having a drink at the art library in a wonderful Mara Hoffman dress

Yesterday after work I went to the art library where they had a big event because they had to sell some of their collection to make room for new work. I wore this Mara Hoffman dress which I borrowed from Dawn. I saw so much work that I liked and discovered one of Ben's paintings. I wanted to buy it, but it was too expensive. He made it especially for the art library. There were many other works of art that were really good . I ended up buying a tiny pink fairytale painting. It was great to see Gina at work. She's good at what she does. I think the event has raised a lot of money and she looked so professional. There were a lot of cool drinks, all non alcoholic and organic, something different for a change. It was quite nice actually and I'm very proud of my friend and my little work of art.

The Life List by Lori Nelson Spielman

Perfect for fans of Cecelia Ahern and Jojo Moyes, a beautifuland moving story about the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter

Brett's Life List

1. Go to Paris

2. Perform live, on a super big stage

3. Have a baby, maybe two

4. Fall in love

Brett Bohlinger seems to have it all: a plum job, a spacious loft, an irresistibly handsome boyfriend. All in all, a charmed life. That is, until her beloved mother passes away, leaving behind a will with one big stipulation: In order to receive her inheritance, Brett must first complete the life list of goals she'd written when she was a naïve girl of fourteen.

Grief-stricken, Brett can barely make sense of her mother's decision-her childhood dreams don't resemble her ambitions at age thirty-four in the slightest. Some seem impossible. How can she possibly have a relationship with a father who died seven years ago? Other goals (Be an awesome teacher!) would require her to reinvent her entire future.

As Brett reluctantly embarks on a perplexing journey in search of her adolescent dreams, one thing becomes clear. Sometimes life's sweetest gifts can be found in the most unexpected places.

I borrowed the summary from Amazon. Brett is heartbroken when her mother dies. Then she has to go to the reading of her will and her whole world will be turned upside down. In order to receive her inheritance Brett needs to complete all goals from her own life list, written at the age of fourteen. According to her mother this is for her own good.
At first Brett isn't very happy with her mother's will, but with the help of a very nice lawyer she's able to cross off her first goal and then another. The hardest goal of all is the one she almost doesn't fulfill. I loved this book and still think about it a lot. Brett had a wise mother and the list is a great gift. This book isn't about money, it's about happiness and how to find it. I couldn't stop reading and finished it in one go. It's one of those rare, perfect, romantic books that you only stumble upon every now and then. It's an absolute gem!

Seeing Ben on April Fool's Day

I love bears, so today I'm wearing this wonderful Dianewednesday shirt. I also wore it to my lunch with Ben. He asked me if we could see each other for an hour. Of course I can't say no to seeing Ben, so I happily agreed to meet him in a cute little lunchroom which serves delicious sandwiches. Ben told me that the past couple of weeks have been a test. To see how much I really care about his son. That's obviously the case so tomorrow he will bring Samuel again and we'll have a normal Wednesday date. I have no idea what to think of this? Is it a prank or is he for real? Either way, I don't like it. Of course tomorrow I can't tell him that because Samuel will be with him and he told me just before he left which is very sneaky of him. I'm starting to realize that Ben is a complicated man. The question is how am I going to deal with that?
