A Wonderful Party

Joseph "Carla" Dress Farfetch

I wore this beautiful dress to a party at work. As we share our building with an art library and a bookshop we have a huge party every year. It was a lot of fun this time and I finally had the chance to spend some time with Gina again. She and her new boyfriend Joey seem very happy. It means I'm seeing a lot less of her, but I don't mind as she's starting to live a little again and that's what's most important.
Because of the party I missed my book club night. I asked them to come to the library and Nolan loved the idea so he came over. He's fallen head over heels for Aislyn. I don't know if she will give him as chance as she's dating a very cute computer geek who's such a good match for her. He wasn't at the party, but his best friend was. He's a regular customer and we let all of them enter a draw to win a couple of free books and tickets for tonight, he won the first prize. The best friend won two tickets, but didn't come with the girl he's dating, but brought his older brother instead. I'm so glad he did. His name is Evan and I really like him. He has adorable brown curls and dimples in his cheeks. He works as a freelance computer programmer so he can plan his own hours. That means he sleeps in the mornings and he works through the night when it's nice and quiet.
I had to socialize, so it would be rude to spend too much time talking with Evan. Every now and then I managed to have a chat with him. When it was time for him to go home he gave me his business card and asked me to email him so we could set a date to go out. He didn't even ask me if I wanted to, he just assumed because we had such a nice time together. I'm not sure if I should feel offended, but of course I did email him as I was curious to find out what he wanted from me. We're going to visit a castle together and have lunch in the garden. That sounds like a lot of fun. He'd planned the whole thing before I could even confirm. He's a bit weird, but in a funny way and because of that I finally have a date, I can't wait! Needless to say that I think the party was a huge success.

Lavender and Aislyn

On Wednesday afternoon I always read to the children who come to the library. It's a lot of fun and I can see it makes them happy. Being read to was my most favorite thing in the whole world when I was little. Aislyn feels the exact same way. To make it even nicer we now read the stories together, so we can both do part of the voices. She's great with kids. Normally she's quite shy, but she completely forgets about everything and everyone when we're reading together.
We were lucky as there were no incidents and as we managed to keep our clothes clean Aislyn and I decided to go out for dinner together. It was the first time we hung out together after work. Normally we're with a group. It was nice to be able to have a chat and to get to know each other a little better. She's such a sweet girl. We had a great time and before we knew it it was midnight and we were staggering out of the pub and then we drank some tea at my place and chatted until 3 am. It wasn't easy to get up this morning, but the lack of sleep was worth it. Since Edward replaced Nanette as my boss working at the library has been so much better. He knows who to hire and he can see right through people. I'm glad he's chosen Aislyn as my replacement on Mondays. There's a lot I can learn from my boss, especially about people. I'm not sure I'll be ready to take over from him at the beginning of 2016. With Aislyn as my assistant it's going to be a lot less scary though.

After the Holidays

After a week of holidays I've now started studying again. Mondays are fun, but we have a huge workload. Every time the teachers are giving us a little bit more to do. I've tried to do as much studying as I could during the weekend. Fortunately my friends and family were a big help. They brought me food and refreshments, they came in for a chat when I needed a break and they left me in complete silence when I needed it. I made a lot of progress and managed to make my deadline. Today I had to hand in an important paper. I had to do a literature study about library marketing which is the first stage of my thesis. It will take a while before I have to write the entire thing, but by dividing the work in smaller assignments our professors are hoping that we'll all be able to graduate without having to choose between our studies and our job.
Edward loves to get updates about my progress. He tries to teach me as much as he can and I've started to see him as my mentor. He's a bit of a father figure. I'm still getting invites to all of his parties, but now I'm also being asked to join him and Victoria when it's just them. They've been a huge support when Calvin left me and then again after Seth passed away. If my sister's ready for some good company they will welcome her with open arms. I've asked her a few times if she wants to go out with me, even if it's just for tea, but she isn't ready yet. I'm giving her all the time she needs, but am making sure that if she's ready I'll be there. I don't think I would have been able to help out as much if it wasn't for Edward. He doesn't mind if I come in late when I have to comfort Dawn or take my nieces and nephew to school. He lets me leave early when there's nobody to pick them up and he gives me a hug when he thinks I need one. He also told me to relax every now and then, because he thinks I'm doing too much.
I took Edward's advice and since today my weekly tea meetings with Rian have resumed. He's taught me so much about writing and the process of submitting a novel. He's preparing me so I know what to expect when I send in my manuscripts. He's a best selling author now, but it took him a while to get there. He's also told me more about his inspiration and where he gets his ideas. Since he's less sad he also isn't serious all the time, he's joking and goofing around and it's great to see that side of him. He had a rebound relationship, but he's back to being single now. He's enjoying his freedom and I'm dreaming of a relationship. That's life I guess. I know I will find mister right some day, but I'm sure it won't be Rian. We get along very well, but we're just friends.

Edward's Party

Yesterday was an important night for Edward. His three sisters and brother came to stay with him and Victoria to celebrate. They were all born in September and each year one of them throws a big party for friends and family. This year it was Edward's turn. It was such an honor to be invited. Of course I had to ask Dawn for a dress. I don't own anything pretty enough for an event like this myself. I borrowed her Prabal Gurung abstract printed dress and had to promise her to be extra careful while wearing it as she wants it back as soon as possible. I was so glad she let me borrow something suitable and it helped me a lot to be less nervous.
There were so many people! Edward and Victoria have a huge house. They needed the entire first floor and a large part of the garden for the party. The weather was great and there was plenty of champagne. This time Victoria had help with the food, but she made sure the caterer used her recipes. At some point I was sitting on a bench by the pond. I wanted to watch the party from a distance for a few minutes and was really enjoying myself. Then someone joined me. It's always nice to have company and this was really good company. Edward's nephew Royce is a handsome man with a troubled past. Edward has told me something about it, but not much. I do know that so far life hasn't been very kind to him. Even though the look in his eyes was sad he was charming and did everything he could to make me feel at ease. His clever jokes and warm character were very hard to resist, so when he asked me out on a date I said yes immediately. Now I'm not so sure if I've made the right decision. Calvin's betrayal is still fresh and I'm not sure if I can suffer a third round of heartbreak this year. I do want to meet the love of my life though and in order to do that I have to date.
I couldn't spend the entire party chatting with Royce, that wouldn't have been polite. I've done my best to mingle and to get to know the people who are dear to my boss who is my very good friend. There were quite a few toasts, each speech a little bit less coherent and sober than the one before it. I don't know how many bottles of alcohol we consumed together, but I think the amount was really scary. In my case the result was a terrible hangover this morning. Edward didn't make it to work, he called in sick, so I had to be there. I don't know how I got through the day and the first thing I did when I got back home was finding my bed to sleep it off. Now I'm feeling a lot better and I can look back on a memorable evening.

My First Event!

John Lewis

I needed to look smart for work yesterday, because there was an important event at the library. It was the first thing I had to host on my own and I was very nervous. Fortunately I have Aislyn to assist me now. She's efficient and I don't have to explain everything ten times. She has a great memory and she makes me very handy to-do lists. To celebrate the start of the new school year we organized several writing workshops for both adults and children. People could sign up on our website and I also advertised in our library as much as possible. Because writing is hot these days we got a lot of attention and a large local newspaper sent a journalist and a photographer to cover the event.
Of course I could count on Rian and Celia to help me out. Edward knows a lot of authors, but this time he just gave me a list and I had to contact them myself. Which means some of them are now my contacts. I couldn't convince all of them to come, but I posted some effective tweets and facebook messages to ask authors to join us and in the end I had a full house. I also invited a few experienced bloggers to teach high school students how to set up a professional blog. Everyone could attend two different workshops which each lasted two hours.
I organized a huge dinner at the end of the day with the help of my friends Franka and Jada to thank all the writers who participated. It was so much fun. The workshops were a huge success and several authors and bloggers are interested in doing follow-ups, which are now fully booked. I'm happy that one of those classes is a writing course for children. They were delighted and it gave their self confidence a great boost. Some of them are already really good.
Aislyn told me she loves to draw and she writes poetry. She supervised a course about writing for children, which was useful for her as well. I love it when we can interact with both authors and customers. It's nice to bring those two worlds together. We also organized a contest where people could win signed books. I've never seen so many happy faces. Working at a library is such a joy, I love my job!

Endings & Beginnings

photo credit: Andy Ciordia via photopin cc

Today I had to rush to the library after class. Normally I'm not supposed to be at work on Mondays, but Edward had an announcement to make and he wanted me to be there. Martha's going to retire soon and she'd love to stay at the library, but only part-time. She decided that she might as well take this step back a few months earlier to give a chance to someone younger. She will be taking over my Mondays until I'm done studying and Aislyn will be hired as a full-time employee from now on. I know Edward must have pulled some strings to make that happen on such a short notice.
I never had the chance to meet Aislyn before today. It's strange as she's been working at the library for months and I kept wondering what she would be like. I must have asked Zoe a thousand questions, because I was so curious. I finally had a chance to meet her and we'll be working together very soon. Edward has given me more responsibilities and she's going to be my right hand. It's scary, but I'm ready to take more initiative.
When I entered the staff room everybody was already there of course, but they waited for me. There was a beautiful chocolate cake, baked by Edward's wife Victoria, and Edward can't celebrate something without opening several bottles of champagne. As soon as he finished his speech I walked over to my new colleague and introduced myself. I finally had my chance to talk to Aislyn. She looks a bit like a fairy with her very short, almost white hair and her huge green eyes. She was a little shy at first, but after a few glasses of bubbles she started to open up a little. She has a great sense of humor and a warm and caring personality. I can't wait to get to know her better and I'm so excited we're going to work together!

Back To School!

I went back to school today. On my first day I wore this navy Hobbs dress. We had to start with a presentation about everything we learned during the summer. Our assignment was to do as much as we could to draw visitors to our institutions. I didn't work on it as much as I hoped because Calvin broke up with me. My long holiday with Celia was a welcome distraction though and I didn't want to miss out because of a good grade for one assignment. I did what I could and talked to my boss. I had some ideas and Edward was happy to tell some of the staff to execute them. I think I've done pretty well considering. I also passed my summer school assignments, all of them. It's a miracle, but due to my book club friends and Rian I managed. It was so good to see all of them again and to have a normal day together.
I try to go out as much as I can during the weekend. It's a lot harder now that most of my friends have boyfriends. They often invite me, but I feel like a third or fifth wheel. I try to make as many appointments as I can and I've done nothing but helping out this weekend, so I didn't have one minute to spare to feel bored or alone. Dawn needed my help with her online shop and the kids and Franka didn't have enough staff for the restaurant on a very busy Friday- and Saturday night, so I've now got experience as a waitress to add to my resume.
My usual Sunday morning breakfasts with Jenna and Lizzy are also still taking place. They want to talk about babies and weddings all the time, but I keep trying to tell them my own stories as well. Lizzy has asked me to go dress shopping this week. I hope she will choose a nice dress for me. I don't mind if it's pink of course, but I also don't want to look like a strawberry muffin.
My parents have talked about starting their own small holiday park. There's a lot of unused land around their house and they've decided to fill it with five luxury cottages. Retirement obviously doesn't suit them. They love each other's company, but they like to work. My mother wants to serve meals for the guests a few times a week. She's also looking forward to the decorating so much that she's asked me to browse furniture catalogs several times now. It's fun to make all the choices together and I'm having a great time. I can't wait to help out and meet the guests.

Lavender's Working and Studying: A Summary

I'm a librarian and I love my job. Our library is modern, with a lot of windows. The walls of glass are giving me a great sense of freedom, because when I look around me I can see the sky. The library is located next to a shopping center. Around the corner there's a small theater and a museum. Everything is fashionable and new. It looks quite stylish if you ask me.
I love the interaction with our customers. Especially the regulars. Of course we have to be silent, so people can focus on their reading, but there's a coffee corner where talking is allowed. We share it with a large bookshop which is downstairs. I love it and am often popping in to see if they've got something new. My good friend Zoe is working behind the counter of the café. She's a philosophy student who wants to enjoy everything she does. She's in no hurry to graduate and is doing as much studying as she can just for fun. Gina is working at the art library next door. We often meet for lunch or we go out for a drink after work.
My boss, Edward, is a wonderful man. He's kind and generous and he's getting along with everyone. He's also posh and rich and a little bit stiff, but with a great sense of humor. He and his sweet and caring wife, Victoria, have a large city home and they often invite people over for dinner. I love their parties and feel very much at home with them, which is great as I regularly stay the night. I really like my boss. He's working at the library for fun. When my former boss Nanette freaked out, he immediately stepped in to replace her. Now I'm next in line to run the place. That's scary, but they're making sure that I'll be prepared.
Every Monday I'm taking classes. One of my teachers, Rian, has become a great friend. He's a crime writer and I'm a big fan of his work. We usually go out for tea and cake together at the end of the afternoon. Because of him I now always look forward to my Mondays. I'm also lucky that I'm part of a supportive study group. Nolan, Betsy and Christie are my fellow reading addicts. We are all trying to become authors and we're only studying to have a plan B. We've started a book club and are meeting every Monday evening to discuss our own stories and our favorite fantasy- and urban fantasy books.
I'm glad I've met all those special people, they've made my social life so much brighter. I'm lucky to have such a great job. I love being surrounded by books and the best part of my day is when I see a smile on someone's face because of a book I've recommended.

Lavender Likes The Summer!

I love pretty dresses and this beauty has been made by Fixdesign. It's summer and it's hot. A lot of my friends are on holiday and my family is a mess. Seth's health still hasn't improved and Dawn only has me and our mother to fall back on. Her two best friends don't have time for her, because they're both about to deliver their babies. It's hard for my sister, but I'm trying to help her as much as I can. Calvin has been a huge support. I'm also getting to know his family a lot better. I love spending time with Brooke and Amber, they are really sweet. I never had a mother in law before who made me feel welcome. Usually they wanted me to go, because I wasn't good enough for their sons. Marie is different. To her it only matters that Calvin is happy.
Gina's struggling with a lot of things at the moment. I'm trying to help her as much as I can, but she doesn't talk easily. I'm giving her all the time she needs, even though I think I should know a little bit of what's going on, so I can help her. I love my friend and I'm glad we've been spending so much time together lately. I've also seen more of Tessa lately. She took Gina in when her aunt died. I like Tessa, she's twelve years older than me, but you can't tell by the way she looks. She's getting along with everyone and she's kind to Gina, like a mother figure. Gina needs someone like that.
I've also seen Franka again. She gave me my first vegetarian cooking lesson. Franks (which is her nickname) is so cool. I love the way she talks. She's relaxed and comfortable in her own skin. I asked if I could bring Jada as we normally cook together and that was no problem. Next week we're going to prepare a special dinner for our loved ones. That's going to be so much fun. I've already looked up some great designs we can use for the menus and I've started making decorations. We want our Christmas in July dinner to be cozy and romantic.
I've started summer school. The group is quite small. Our book club is complete though, because we all want to improve our writing skills. The lessons are mainly focused on how to present yourself. We have an Oral Presentations class which is scary, but fun. Plus we have to write several articles to pass Advanced Writing. Rian is our Creative Writing teacher. He's told us a lot more about his books. It's fascinating to know that our serious teacher has written so many horrible thrillers. Our weekly tea meetings are still going well. Lately he's been cheerful and he looks content. Maybe he's met someone, I don't really dare asking him about it yet.
So much has been going on and it's certainly an eventful summer. I can't believe July is almost over. So far the weather has been great and I spent a lot of time in beach bars, having drinks with the friends who are staying at home as well. It's so relaxing to go there after a day of hard work. The library is quiet and we're trying extra hard to invite people in. A lot of the card holders are using our national free book app on their tablets or phones instead of coming over to borrow books these days. We've still got enough budget left, but I hope they will come back once they realize they miss book recommendations and holding something real in their hands. Nothing can beat that. Meanwhile I'm having great conversations with Edward and Zoe. I love the summer season. Good weather makes everything a little bit better.

A Normal Wednesday at Work?

I wore this Dickins & Jones dress to work on Wednesday. It was supposed to be a regular day at work, but sometimes things just don't want to go according to plan. There was a little boy who was inventive and supple enough to climb up to the highest book shelf in one of the grown up sections. He proudly sat on top of the books, but they aren't very steady, so he tumbled down. Fortunately he only had a mild concussion, but for a while the whole library was in a state of total chaos and panic. I still can't believe nobody saw him climbing up. His mother thought he was playing in the children's section, but apparently that lost it's appeal very soon. We called an ambulance and to make sure he would be all right they kept him over night at the hospital. Edward sent him a book and a huge bag of sweets with a card signed by the library staff. I'm glad nothing worse happened to him. I guess children don't stay put when they smell an adventure, it can happen in a flash.
One of our regular visitors is an old man who is a little bit lonely. He usually orders coffee and buys a paper in the downstairs bookshop which he then reads in the café. When there are customers he chats with them and when there aren't any he chats with Zoe. He always asks me to recommend him a good book. When I've done that he comes back the next week to talk to me about it. It's nice to interact with people like that.
I read books to children on Wednesday afternoons. It's an after school thing for children from 3 to 7 years old and their brothers and sisters. They are usually just learning to read and sometimes we use letters as a theme. It's the best afternoon of my week. I like it so much to do voices. It's one of the highlights of my work. On this particular Wednesday something amazing happened. Edward joined me, so we could read one of the stories together. It was a book about a chicken and a duck. I was the chicken and Edward the duck. We even did a little dance and I had a hard time keeping a straight face. Who would have thought that posh Edward would be so much fun without drinking some champagne first?

My Week!

I love this cheerful Asos dress. It's perfect for the summer! I've decided it's my dress of the week. I love the combination of the two fabrics and I can never resist a nice floral garment.
It has been a busy week and because of my birthday celebrations I haven't blogged about my other days. There wasn't much to tell this week either. We postponed our Monday Night book club meeting, because it was my birthday. As Jada helped me preparing for the barn & garden party we also decided to have a Tuesday evening off. On Wednesday Calvin and I spent a lazy evening together. We drank a glass of prosecco on my balcony and talked about our relationship and how happy we are that things are going so well. On Thursday Victoria and Edward often host a party, but this week they went out for dinner together for their anniversary. Calvin and I sent them flowers and they had a lovely night. I hope we will still be together when we will be their age.
On Friday evening I went to Dawn to help her. Seth isn't doing very well. He isn't getting any better, but he's also not getting worse. Dawn tries to visit him every day and preferably with all of their children, so they can see their dad. I see they are getting used to the situation a little and slowly they're developing a new routine.
I've heard something from Stella. I was a little worried about her, because in the region where she's been stationed there have been some disturbances. She's all right though. Stella called to wish me a happy birthday and I've given her an update about Gina and how she's doing in the apartment. As far as Stella is concerned she and the twins can stay a while longer, because she won't be there for a while. They've just prolonged her stay.
I'm not used to evenings on my own and having lots of me time. I like the company of others. Calvin has spent most of the nights at my place, but he often works until late. I used my time to write and I hope some good will come of it. I'm getting more confident each day which is making me happy. I don't know if I'll ever be a great writer, but at least I'm a cheerful one.

Studying and Work

This wonderful Motel Arta Dress is from Asos. Even though I had to study this weekend I wanted to wear something nice. The weather was great, but I was stuck inside. I did some chores for Dawn, but other than that I studied. I want to pass my exams. I really like the courses, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to manage the library. I would like to be an author instead. That is something I can only dream about, because I haven't gotten very far yet. I know most authors hardly make any money and it's a hard and uncertain profession, but for me it's magic.
I've printed the manuscript of my YA novel and I still can't believe I filled all of those pages. I'm not very happy with my work yet, there's still a lot that has to be corrected and fine tuned, but it's something I've achieved and I'm proud of it. Lately I often find myself thinking about life, my job and happiness and I've come to the conclusion that work isn't everything. Love is my number one priority and my second one is my books. I have plenty of stories to tell. For now I'll have to go back to my books and make sure I'll pass those exams as when you want to become an author you also need to have a plan B. Fortunately it includes a nice boss, some great colleagues and books all around me. I'm a lucky woman.

A Regular Friday...

Jack & Jones

I love wearing Calvin's shirts and I steal them whenever I have the chance. On Friday morning I woke up in his apartment with a bit of a hangover. I had to go to work, but didn't feel like it at all. I much rather would have snuggled under the covers with my boyfriend for a few more hours, but instead my pounding head and I needed to be at work. Friday also is teenager day and this week we talked about the Last Apprentice series. We'll read the new book the coming week and after the summer they will all be back for another series.
I wore Calvin's shirt to work with a jegging and a belt and it actually looked pretty good. I think I need to borrow his wardrobe more often. He had to work as well, so we didn't have time to sleep in. That's something I kind of miss about us. There are no lazy days, but fortunately we've got enough compensation for it due to the many other happy moments in our relationship.
I went outside for lunch with Gina and Zoe on Friday afternoon. There's always a market in the streets and at the squares near the library at the end of the week. We usually buy something to eat, or rather lots of food and cookies, and then sit down to talk somewhere. That's so much fun it's becoming a regular thing. We giggle, gossip and laugh until we are completely out of breath. Even though Gina is a bit quiet lately she seems to enjoy herself very much in our company. My two friends have already promised me to do an extra special birthday lunch, so I won't be completely friendless on my big day next week. Calvin also has some plans, but I'm not supposed to know what they are yet. Things are looking brighter than they did a few days ago.

An Apple a Day...

I wore this new Hell Bunny apple dress to work on Wednesday. We had an apple themed day for both the grown ups and the children. We read books about apples, Zoe had many different kinds of apple pies and -cakes and Edward walked around with a crate of apples to give every visitor who wanted one a healthy snack. Because of the warm summer weather we're trying to do new things to make our days a bit more interesting.
I'm a fruit person, I like apples, so this was a perfect theme for me. For Edward as well and we spent at least an hour talking about our favorite fruity recipes. Victoria is a very good cook and Edward is lucky to be able to eat one of her lovely deserts every day. Health is an important topic in society and we needed this day to promote this section of our library. It has grown quite a bit over the past couple of years. Fortunately we've got quite many books with apple recipes to recommend to everyone who wants to try them.

A Quiet Tuesday at Work

I wore Dawns wonderful Edith & Ella silk dress to work on Tuesday. It wasn't such a busy day. Normally a lot of people come in to borrow books, but because of the warm weather there wasn't much to do. Edward even sent me to the staff room for an hour so I could work on my manuscript. It would have been so much better if we could have had an outside library event. Unfortunately we're not allowed to do just anything we want to. When I was talking about it with Edward, he say we might not be able to transport our books outside, but that we could have a mini summer market together with the book store and the art library. People always have books they want to get rid of so we want to organize a trade. We've asked the council for permission and are now waiting for them to say yes. I hope they do as it will make long, warm summer days busy instead of quiet. Books are meant to be read and who doesn't want a great, new summer read for a lazy day in the sun?

A regular day at work or not?

I was wearing this White Stuff petal dress to work yesterday. I thought it would be just a regular Tuesday, but somehow the entire day was crazy. First a little boy threw up all over the toys in the children's section. Then there was a confused old lady who didn't know where she was and couldn't remember where she lived. After a bit of effort we managed to find her address and contact information. A kind neighbor arrived at the library ten minutes later to pick her up. Next was a lady whose dog had chewed on her library books. They were all too damaged to repair. She has to contact her insurance to cover the costs. Last but not least there was a problem with a disheveled man who often reads the papers at one of the tables. He was drunk this time and he was obviously sad about something as he was crying. I felt really bad for him. I went to Zoe and asked her for some coffee to sober him up a little. He disturbed the other visitors, so I had to ask him to either calm down or leave. I also brought him a muffin and something funny to read. He was quiet after that and left sooner than he normally would.
At the end of the day a man in a suit came in. He wanted to talk to Edward about donating some money to the library. Instead of talking to him on his own Edward asked me to join them. I was really nervous, but Edward did most of the talking to show me how to handle these things. In the end we were left with a sum of money that will allow us to buy a lot of new books and we can finally redecorate the children's section. Even though it was a messy and chaotic day I felt very much alive.

Working on Wednesday!

On Wednesdays, when I spend the entire afternoon reading stories to kids, I always want to wear something cheerful. This time I chose a purple dress from ModCloth. Happy colors always work. I love those afternoons as they are giving me a chance to forget I'm a grown up. I'm a big fan of cute, I've got plenty of stuffed animals, I like to buy huge bags filled with candy in all colors of the rainbow and I really like to read books that are meant for five year olds. For a few hours a week I can pretend that that's completely normal behavior. Of course silly singing and dancing is allowed and I don't have to be silent because I would otherwise disturb our visitors. I wish every day of the week would be like my Wednesday afternoons, so I could forget about being the responsible know it all librarian forever!

Rian's Dilemma

I borrowed this Burberry dress from Dawn. I really enjoyed wearing it, but I've already said my goodbyes. This one has to go back to my sister. She let me borrow it, so I could wear it to an event at school yesterday. An important politician came to tell us about dividing budgets and requesting funds. It was really interesting. Because it was quite a big deal that he came to our school a lot of the staff and several of their influential guests were present. This was the perfect time to increase my network. Before yesterday it was practically nonexistent, so I had to do my best to at least exchange a few business cards. I've met some interesting people, but I didn't feel very comfortable. I'm a bookish girl who doesn't feel at ease among a crowd like that. I needed to do my best to be social and I think I've done an OK job, but that didn't mean I had to like it.
Rian received several job requests. Someone has asked him to work for one of the largest media companies in the country. It means he'd have to give up teaching, but also that he won't have time anymore to write his books. The salary is great and it's a wonderful opportunity, but he likes his current situation very much. I'm curious to see what he's going to decide. It would mean summer school with someone else for me, so I hope he'll stay.

A Surprise Visit from Calvin

I've already learned that Calvin never does what I expect him to do, so I wasn't surprised to find him on my bed in his pajamas yesterday morning. He came around half an hour before my alarm went off just because he wanted to see me. My heart completely melted to be honest.
While I was in the shower he made me breakfast and not just any breakfast. He checked my blog's favorites and found this photo of coconut pancakes with berries & coconut whipped cream. It's a recipe from the blog coconut and berries and it was absolutely wonderful!
Calvin and I happily chatted for about half an hour and then we both had to leave. He dropped me off at work first, so we could be together for just a little bit longer. He briefly came inside as he wanted to meet the famous Edward. After they shook hands he gave me a kiss in front of everyone and left. I received a big round of applause from my colleagues which was slightly embarrassing, but funny. I never started work being so cheerful, what an excellent beginning of my day.

A Surprise Inspection

I wore this Ischia Lace Print Prom Dress to work yesterday, because I had to go to Jada's mansion afterwards. A lot of people always stare at me, because I'm dressing up even for normal days at the library. I like it, so I don't see any reason not to. Yesterday I was very happy I did, because we got a surprise inspection. Edward's helping me prepare to get ready to manage the library in a few years. His bosses wanted to know how we are doing. I think it's going well and Edward and I have become pretty close already during the past couple of months. The bosses are  strict and rigid which made the whole visit way too formal, but Edward and I are a good team, so they were positive in general.
We got a good review and something even better came out of the nerve wrecking encounter. We've been granted a budget to host another workshop and an event to promote new authors. I'm very sure it's going to be a lot of fun and it's a another chance for me to learn more about writing which will help me with my book.
