Orange, Books and Football

There's a thing I really like about the football/soccer world cup and that is buying orange clothes. I love this Alice + Olivia dress. I must admit I often don't watch an entire match. Calvin loves sports and he begged me to come with him. We've watched several games in a local bar, but I secretly read on my phone most of the time. Everyone was way too busy cheering and commenting on the games. I don't think anyone around me noticed that I was watching a different screen. Fortunately I can keep wearing orange for a little while longer as I do love the color. As long as I can bring my mobile to wherever Calvin decides to take me in the next couple of evenings I'll be all right.

Studying and Work

This wonderful Motel Arta Dress is from Asos. Even though I had to study this weekend I wanted to wear something nice. The weather was great, but I was stuck inside. I did some chores for Dawn, but other than that I studied. I want to pass my exams. I really like the courses, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to manage the library. I would like to be an author instead. That is something I can only dream about, because I haven't gotten very far yet. I know most authors hardly make any money and it's a hard and uncertain profession, but for me it's magic.
I've printed the manuscript of my YA novel and I still can't believe I filled all of those pages. I'm not very happy with my work yet, there's still a lot that has to be corrected and fine tuned, but it's something I've achieved and I'm proud of it. Lately I often find myself thinking about life, my job and happiness and I've come to the conclusion that work isn't everything. Love is my number one priority and my second one is my books. I have plenty of stories to tell. For now I'll have to go back to my books and make sure I'll pass those exams as when you want to become an author you also need to have a plan B. Fortunately it includes a nice boss, some great colleagues and books all around me. I'm a lucky woman.

Writing and Revising

Pencil Case Asos

Even though it wasn't a school day on Monday I have a lot of work to do before the end of the first semester. There will be exams and I have to hand in several papers. I''m spending a lot of time writing and revising. I need a really tight schedule to be able to keep working on my manuscript as well. I don't want to stop, even if it's just temporarily, now that I've come so far. I'm quite proud of myself that I've been able to finish the story. I've also done a lot of editing and I'm having the time of my life. It makes me want to spend all my free hours on the book instead of my school work.
I have to write two essays about books. One is about heroes in the twentieth century and the other is an open assignment. I have to choose a classic work and then have to decide myself what I'm going to write about it. Those assignments are the hardest. Because there are no real limitations it's hard to know what to do exactly. I'm sure I will come up with something though. I still have to do so much before next week. Wish me luck!

Being Lazy

I needed a bit of time for myself and decided to take a day off. On Thursday I spent the entire day reading in this lovely Asos shirt dress. I could really use a break and when my batteries are empty nothing helps better than recharging them with a good book and loads of cupcakes, muffins and cookies. I've worked so hard on my book lately which meant I got up early every day before work to write. I spent most of my nights reading until 2 pm, so I badly needed to catch up on some sleep. I got up at noon and then I moved myself to my sofa bed which I didn't leave for the rest of the afternoon. It was absolutely perfect!

Facts About Lavender Part 3

The last thing I bought is this Strawberry Beauty Box from Rose & Co. I love buying things like this for myself and their lip balm is fabulous. The pink packaging also really helps. Pink is my favorite color.

Today I purchased Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins from Amazon. I can't wait to read this book! I loved Anna and the French Kiss.

I'm a big fan of chocolate covered oranges. They're such a wonderful treat! Belgian chocolate shops definitely make the best ones.

I'm always cold, so I often make myself a hot water bottle. Of course I have a beautiful cover for it. Mine's from Cath Kidston and I hope they will get them back in stock very soon!

Book Talk: A Trip Down Memory Lane

I'm currently reading You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher. This book is a love story, one that starts when the main characters are still children. I'm going to review the book when I've finished it, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to talk about the loves from my past. I've only written about the cheating bastard of an ex called Rowan, but of course I've also had sweet romances in my past.
I was 14 years old when I kissed someone for the first time. Lizzy had a boyfriend back then and he brought a friend for a double date. I liked him enough to kiss him, but we never hooked up after that. I must shamefully admit that I can't even remember his name anymore. It was a pretty good kiss though.
I had my first real boyfriend soon after, we had a summer fling that lasted three weeks. His name was Samuel and I met him while lounging by the pool on the first day of a holiday with my parents and Dawn (Jason was already too old to come with us). It was love at first sight and we were inseparable for the rest of the holiday. He was French and like all boys from this country, he wrote me one passionate letter, then a friendly but much less intense one and after that I never heard of him again. It didn't really hurt, because by then I met someone who would later be my first proper long time boyfriend.
I met Jeffrey at the first day of school when I was sixteen. We went to the same school, but we never met before that year. I really liked him and after a few weeks discovered the feeling was mutual. We went out together and then were a couple for three years. It didn't last, because we became friends and the love slowly disappeared from our relationship. We're still sporadically keeping in touch by sending a text or e-mail.
Then, after a few flings, came Rowan who was my boyfriend for two years until I was 25 years old. I've had two short relationships since then. One with an older man called Gerard which lasted a year and a half. The other with a French teacher named Laurent, who went back to France a year after we first started dating. I liked both of them, but they weren't the one. That's more or less my love history, until just before I started writing about my life.

Working on Wednesday!

On Wednesdays, when I spend the entire afternoon reading stories to kids, I always want to wear something cheerful. This time I chose a purple dress from ModCloth. Happy colors always work. I love those afternoons as they are giving me a chance to forget I'm a grown up. I'm a big fan of cute, I've got plenty of stuffed animals, I like to buy huge bags filled with candy in all colors of the rainbow and I really like to read books that are meant for five year olds. For a few hours a week I can pretend that that's completely normal behavior. Of course silly singing and dancing is allowed and I don't have to be silent because I would otherwise disturb our visitors. I wish every day of the week would be like my Wednesday afternoons, so I could forget about being the responsible know it all librarian forever!

Facts about Lavender part 2

The last thing I bought is this Lily Lolo Lash Alert mascara. I love trying out new make up brands and I often chose natural or bio cosmetics.

The last book I bought is Love Me for Me by Jenny Hale which I purchased as an e-book on Amazon.

I love lemon muffins! I've got a sweet tooth and like almost everything that has fruit in it.

I admire tigers, because of their grace and elegance. Their eyes are really beautiful. Of course I would never dare to go near one. I'm not a very brave person.

A demonstration for Dawn's customers

On Saturday at lunch time Dawn needed me for a demonstration of her products. She had a double booking and asked me if I would be able to take one. Of course I said yes, but I was so nervous. I wore my new Take It From The Rooftop dress and Dawn did my make up for me. I had to sell biological cosmetics to a group of women in their fifties. I had to go to a lovely, romantic home with a beautiful garden filled with flowers. The women were drinking cocktails and their food of choice was pie, chocolate, cookies and cake. The atmosphere was cheerful and happy. The products more or less sold themselves because of all the booze. Soon I had a cocktail in my hand and they insisted I would drink it. Then they started to ask me all kinds of questions about my life. They were such a close and merry group of friends. I sold quite many products and had a great time.

Facts about Lavender

1) I love the brand Sundry and this sweater is my latest purchase. I have no idea if I'm wearing the right brands or not and that isn't very important to me either. I choose things because I like them. I started to notice how much I actually like Sundry when I found several of their items in my closet.

2) Bad Girls is my newest e-book purchase. I've bought it a few hours ago. I usually buy e-books that are on sale. When there's a good offer I purchase the book. If there's a book that I've been wanting for a while but which is a little bit more expensive I often go for the paperback version. I like a good bargain and I've already read many wonderful and surprising books that way. It makes me discover new things I otherwise maybe wouldn't have picked, but I often like those books a lot.

 3) My favorite flowers are peonies. I love flowers and I like everything that's pink. Roses are wonderful and romantic. This is the prettiest one of them all. At least it is for me.

4) My favorite champagne is Blin's Blanc de Blancs. I really like a good glass of champagne. A vintage from a good year, or another good specialty. When there's champagne the party has already half succeeded. For me it's a special drink and when I'm able to have it I'm enjoying every sip.
Elizabeth & James

5) I wear both glasses and lenses. As soon as I get home the lenses go out and I put on the glasses. I can't see very much without them. Maybe that is because I've read so many books?

My Writing Weekend!

Provence Rose Notebook

I worked very hard this weekend. I got up early to make people breakfast, I made beds, I took orders and I accompanied the guests together with aunt Giselle. We made sure they were happy and healthy and that they had everything they desired. Which also meant I had the chance to see Celia Daniels's home, because I accompanied her there a few times. She gave me and the people who were taking her course a lovely surprise, a signed version of her latest book with a personal message. It's a wonderful gift that I will treasure forever. I'm not starstruck anymore, at least not in front of her or Jim. I feel a bit more confident after getting to know them so well and Calvin had to tell me at least twenty times that they are normal people no matter what they've accomplished. He got along very well with them and treated them like he treats everyone else, with a joke and a smile. Everyone seemed to genuinely like him. I'm not surprised, but I am very proud of him. The weekend was useful for him too as he's sold a lot of tea and managed to get several bookings for his tearooms. He also sold some coffee to the bed and breakfast and he's promised my uncle and aunt that they can call us any time they need someone to help out during an extremely busy weekend.
Something wonderful has happened during one of the writing courses. I had lots of time to work on my novel. All of a sudden I was writing an epilogue and then I was writing the last sentence of my story. That means that I've finished the first draft of my book! I can't believe it, it's a huge milestone for me. I've worked so hard during the past couple of months, but I know a big part of the real work is still in front of me because I still need to do a lot of editing. I've received great advice and quite a few pointers. I have to make sure that the reader knows what I'm talking about, it can be evident to me, but it has to be to anyone who reads my story. That is one of my biggest flaws. Another one is that I should make my main character a bit tougher, because he is a boy. It's hard to think like a boy when you're a very girly girl, but I'm sure I can pull it off. I just need to be aware. I've made a list of all my possible pitfalls and shortcomings and hopefully my novel will turn out to be at least a little bit decent.
As always I was very sad to leave uncle Peter and aunt Giselle behind. I love to spend time with them and I do want to visit them when I'm not needed or when there isn't a writer's weekend at the bed and breakfast. Calvin has made sure that will happen, he asked everyone to look at their planners and then we set a date. It's his way to do everything, if you want something very much you make arrangements straight away. I can learn something from that.

Lavender Likes: Book Talk!

I'm a librarian and I've chosen this profession because I love books. I'm currently writing a novel and hopefully one day I'll see my own writing in print. I want to share four of my favorite novels. All of them have made a lasting impression. There are so many books that I treasure, but these have a special place in my heart.
I like to talk about stories. I taught myself how to read at the age of four and since then I've been hooked. There's no way I will ever leave the house without something to read in my bag. I have books on my phone, I have two e-readers and I've got plenty of paperbacks and hardcovers. There's a reason I buy books besides borrowing some of them from the library. I want to support authors. Ever since I was a student and had the knowledge of how hard it is to be an author and to make a living selling books I've had the biggest respect for the profession I so much desire to make my own one day. If we don't buy books there will be no authors. That's such a horrible thought, especially in a time where people are downloading tons of books for free. It's inevitable, it happens, people steal. Still, I don't want to be any part of that, so every month quite a bit of my income goes to books.
Next month I'll be 29 and it's never hard for people to come up with presents for me. They just check my wishlists from several book stores and I'm the happiest girl in the world.
I read books on my phone sometimes. It's especially handy when I've got to wait somewhere or when I want to take a sneak peek at my screen whenever possible. I also use my phone to write things down for my own novel. I get a questioning look every now and then, but I don't mind. A phone is a handy notepad and it fits easily in my bag, it won't wrinkle and I don't need to search for minutes to find a pen to write things down.
Do I have strange reading habits? I've bought a iron bed that looks like a couch and have put that in my living room. I've put many pillows on it to make it look cozy and that's my reading corner. I love to eat while I read which can sometimes be difficult. Eating is a lot easier with an tablet than with a paperback. I try to avoid drinking near my books as much as possible, because I easily spill something when I'm somewhere far away in story land. Last night Calvin sneaked up on me and I had no idea until he was standing right in front of me with a cup of tea. He had been there for ten minutes already! Calvin likes to talk about books, he's a reader too. We don't read the same things, but that doesn't matter.
Before I'm making this too long. I'm so glad I have the opportunity to be able to read everything I wish to read. I'm extremely lucky with my profession and with my books. Because of the book club I've noticed how much I like book talk, so more of this will follow.

Books I've bought today!

I usually spend my Monday mornings browsing the internet for new books. My classes start a little bit later than I usually have to be at work, so I've fallen into the habit of using that time to do some shopping on Amazon, the Bookdepository and iTunes. It's one of my favorite things to do and it's the perfect beginning of the week.

Hello Chocolate!

What is it with heartbreak that makes you want to eat loads and loads of chocolate? I like mine bio and love Bovetti and Jardin Bio. I've eaten so much chocolate during the past couple of days, but it never seemed to be too much. I needed it and still do. Maybe you can see to which country I went when you check out the chocolate I ate. I will dearly miss those bars now that I'm back home again. I took a few with me, but I'm sure they aren't going to last very long.
