Lavender and Aislyn

On Wednesday afternoon I always read to the children who come to the library. It's a lot of fun and I can see it makes them happy. Being read to was my most favorite thing in the whole world when I was little. Aislyn feels the exact same way. To make it even nicer we now read the stories together, so we can both do part of the voices. She's great with kids. Normally she's quite shy, but she completely forgets about everything and everyone when we're reading together.
We were lucky as there were no incidents and as we managed to keep our clothes clean Aislyn and I decided to go out for dinner together. It was the first time we hung out together after work. Normally we're with a group. It was nice to be able to have a chat and to get to know each other a little better. She's such a sweet girl. We had a great time and before we knew it it was midnight and we were staggering out of the pub and then we drank some tea at my place and chatted until 3 am. It wasn't easy to get up this morning, but the lack of sleep was worth it. Since Edward replaced Nanette as my boss working at the library has been so much better. He knows who to hire and he can see right through people. I'm glad he's chosen Aislyn as my replacement on Mondays. There's a lot I can learn from my boss, especially about people. I'm not sure I'll be ready to take over from him at the beginning of 2016. With Aislyn as my assistant it's going to be a lot less scary though.

After the Holidays

After a week of holidays I've now started studying again. Mondays are fun, but we have a huge workload. Every time the teachers are giving us a little bit more to do. I've tried to do as much studying as I could during the weekend. Fortunately my friends and family were a big help. They brought me food and refreshments, they came in for a chat when I needed a break and they left me in complete silence when I needed it. I made a lot of progress and managed to make my deadline. Today I had to hand in an important paper. I had to do a literature study about library marketing which is the first stage of my thesis. It will take a while before I have to write the entire thing, but by dividing the work in smaller assignments our professors are hoping that we'll all be able to graduate without having to choose between our studies and our job.
Edward loves to get updates about my progress. He tries to teach me as much as he can and I've started to see him as my mentor. He's a bit of a father figure. I'm still getting invites to all of his parties, but now I'm also being asked to join him and Victoria when it's just them. They've been a huge support when Calvin left me and then again after Seth passed away. If my sister's ready for some good company they will welcome her with open arms. I've asked her a few times if she wants to go out with me, even if it's just for tea, but she isn't ready yet. I'm giving her all the time she needs, but am making sure that if she's ready I'll be there. I don't think I would have been able to help out as much if it wasn't for Edward. He doesn't mind if I come in late when I have to comfort Dawn or take my nieces and nephew to school. He lets me leave early when there's nobody to pick them up and he gives me a hug when he thinks I need one. He also told me to relax every now and then, because he thinks I'm doing too much.
I took Edward's advice and since today my weekly tea meetings with Rian have resumed. He's taught me so much about writing and the process of submitting a novel. He's preparing me so I know what to expect when I send in my manuscripts. He's a best selling author now, but it took him a while to get there. He's also told me more about his inspiration and where he gets his ideas. Since he's less sad he also isn't serious all the time, he's joking and goofing around and it's great to see that side of him. He had a rebound relationship, but he's back to being single now. He's enjoying his freedom and I'm dreaming of a relationship. That's life I guess. I know I will find mister right some day, but I'm sure it won't be Rian. We get along very well, but we're just friends.

Lavender is back!

I'm back. It's been a while since I've told you any stories about my life. When my sister's husband suddenly passed away I needed to be there for my sister. Jason came back from Australia and we've been supporting Dawn as much as we can. She's moved in with my parents, so my mother can watch the children when they get home from school. Dawn is back at work and is trying to carry on, but I can see how heartbroken and devastated she is. She didn't want to stay in the house where she built so many memories with the love of her life. I spend many nights sleeping in her room, because she doesn't want to be alone. As a family we're strong, but grief is such a mean thing. There's nothing we can do to make it go away. The same goes for her three children who have lost their father.
Besides taking care of my sister I've also been busy with Lizzy's wedding. We found her a beautiful dress and I think she's going to be the prettiest bride I've ever seen. It will still be a couple of months before they will say yes to each other as they're getting married on Valentine's Day. We've booked the venue, ordered the invitations and went dress shopping at at least ten different bridal shops. I loved all the different dresses and can't wait to get married! I need to find myself a potential husband first and that's not my strongest point. Maybe someone else should select my boyfriends from now on. My brother and Sandy want to get married as soon as possible as well, but they don't dare to tell Dawn yet. I'm so happy for them. Life can be great and unfair at the same time and having both a heavy and a light heart is such a strange feeling.
I love working together with Aislyn, she's such a sweet girl. I'm still not completely used to being someone's boss, but I'm improving. Soon I will have another staff member to guide. They've hired an intern, who's going to do some research and together we have to come up with a plan to improve our marketing strategy. Events clearly help to get more visitors and we want to organize several small things every week. It's great to come up with plans and I'm enjoying the buzz and the new attention as well.
I've been on two dates. They were all right, but nothing special. I think my musician friend Roy will be back from his world tour soon. I can't wait to see him, but I don't want to get my hopes up. We've been keeping in touch via Skype and it's been so much fun to find out more about his life and his personality. My brother has been to one of his concerts and afterwards they had a beer together. I didn't know it, but they've met before at soccer matches, so it was no coincidence they ran into each other. He would love to see us together as he thinks Roy is a great guy. I'm not sure he's ready for any commitment though. He loves his freedom. To be honest I'm quite enjoying mine as well. It's great to go out with friends and to read a book when I want to. With Calvin I stayed in too much, I love going out and my life changed into something that didn't suit me when I was with him.
Tomorrow one of my new author friends will have a talk and signing session at the bookstore on the floor below the library. I can't wait to go. Afterwards she will also come upstairs to talk about her writing and she's promised that ten aspiring writers will be allowed to attend a special master class. I bet the lines are going to be really long. Fortunately I'm the lucky person who has to supervise it. I have to make sure everything goes according to plan and when it does I can sit down and join the class.

It's nice to be back. As you can see I'm sharing a picture of myself with you. It was nice to share a face with Suzanne, but it's time to have my own. I think it's showing my best features and I love my bright green eyes. This is the real me and I'm proud of it.

Here you can find out more about the artist:

Edward's Party

Yesterday was an important night for Edward. His three sisters and brother came to stay with him and Victoria to celebrate. They were all born in September and each year one of them throws a big party for friends and family. This year it was Edward's turn. It was such an honor to be invited. Of course I had to ask Dawn for a dress. I don't own anything pretty enough for an event like this myself. I borrowed her Prabal Gurung abstract printed dress and had to promise her to be extra careful while wearing it as she wants it back as soon as possible. I was so glad she let me borrow something suitable and it helped me a lot to be less nervous.
There were so many people! Edward and Victoria have a huge house. They needed the entire first floor and a large part of the garden for the party. The weather was great and there was plenty of champagne. This time Victoria had help with the food, but she made sure the caterer used her recipes. At some point I was sitting on a bench by the pond. I wanted to watch the party from a distance for a few minutes and was really enjoying myself. Then someone joined me. It's always nice to have company and this was really good company. Edward's nephew Royce is a handsome man with a troubled past. Edward has told me something about it, but not much. I do know that so far life hasn't been very kind to him. Even though the look in his eyes was sad he was charming and did everything he could to make me feel at ease. His clever jokes and warm character were very hard to resist, so when he asked me out on a date I said yes immediately. Now I'm not so sure if I've made the right decision. Calvin's betrayal is still fresh and I'm not sure if I can suffer a third round of heartbreak this year. I do want to meet the love of my life though and in order to do that I have to date.
I couldn't spend the entire party chatting with Royce, that wouldn't have been polite. I've done my best to mingle and to get to know the people who are dear to my boss who is my very good friend. There were quite a few toasts, each speech a little bit less coherent and sober than the one before it. I don't know how many bottles of alcohol we consumed together, but I think the amount was really scary. In my case the result was a terrible hangover this morning. Edward didn't make it to work, he called in sick, so I had to be there. I don't know how I got through the day and the first thing I did when I got back home was finding my bed to sleep it off. Now I'm feeling a lot better and I can look back on a memorable evening.

Back To School!

I went back to school today. On my first day I wore this navy Hobbs dress. We had to start with a presentation about everything we learned during the summer. Our assignment was to do as much as we could to draw visitors to our institutions. I didn't work on it as much as I hoped because Calvin broke up with me. My long holiday with Celia was a welcome distraction though and I didn't want to miss out because of a good grade for one assignment. I did what I could and talked to my boss. I had some ideas and Edward was happy to tell some of the staff to execute them. I think I've done pretty well considering. I also passed my summer school assignments, all of them. It's a miracle, but due to my book club friends and Rian I managed. It was so good to see all of them again and to have a normal day together.
I try to go out as much as I can during the weekend. It's a lot harder now that most of my friends have boyfriends. They often invite me, but I feel like a third or fifth wheel. I try to make as many appointments as I can and I've done nothing but helping out this weekend, so I didn't have one minute to spare to feel bored or alone. Dawn needed my help with her online shop and the kids and Franka didn't have enough staff for the restaurant on a very busy Friday- and Saturday night, so I've now got experience as a waitress to add to my resume.
My usual Sunday morning breakfasts with Jenna and Lizzy are also still taking place. They want to talk about babies and weddings all the time, but I keep trying to tell them my own stories as well. Lizzy has asked me to go dress shopping this week. I hope she will choose a nice dress for me. I don't mind if it's pink of course, but I also don't want to look like a strawberry muffin.
My parents have talked about starting their own small holiday park. There's a lot of unused land around their house and they've decided to fill it with five luxury cottages. Retirement obviously doesn't suit them. They love each other's company, but they like to work. My mother wants to serve meals for the guests a few times a week. She's also looking forward to the decorating so much that she's asked me to browse furniture catalogs several times now. It's fun to make all the choices together and I'm having a great time. I can't wait to help out and meet the guests.

Lavender's Having a Great Time

As promised, I finished helping my aunt and uncle for a little over a week at the bed and breakfast. It was hard to work while I was feeling so bad and I missed Calvin like crazy. I sent him a few texts, but he hasn't replied to any of them. I hope he's all right and even though I'm angry, I wish him all the best. I understand he wants to be with his child. What I don't get is how he could leave me behind without showing any emotion. It was like I never meant anything to him. We've spent so much time together and he didn't even seem to care a little bit about me when he broke up with me. I have so many questions, but I'll have to accept that he isn't going to answer them. I've given up and am trying to move on now.
Celia has been there for me the entire time. She let me cry on her shoulder and at the end of the week she told me to pack my Modcloth pink party dress, a bikini and my passport. We went shopping for the rest of the clothes I needed after the arrival at our destination. Celia has booked us an amazing holiday at a great cottage near the beach. We're lounging in the sunshine, there are free cocktails and the food is delicious. I love the bright blue sea and the white sand and Celia is great company. I can't believe she actually made all the arrangements for a trip to Aruba in just a few days time. I'm still stunned. It's great to be here and everything is perfect. I'm actually having fun and I'm getting a nice tan. I'm healing and am looking forward to seeing my friends and family again when I get back. I couldn't face them after Calvin's news, because I felt ashamed that another guy had dumped me. Fortunately I'm over that. It will be a while before I'll be ready to date someone, but I am starting to get back a bit of my happy, bubbly self. Celia told me this trip is a win-win situation, I needed a holiday and she was looking for a good travel companion. It seems like we've both found exactly what we wanted.

Helping During My Holidays

I received such an amazing present earlier this week. I'm now the proud owner of a P.A.R.O.S.H. dress and I can assure you it was a huge surprise. My aunt Giselle gave it to me and I love it. I've offered to help her again with an event at the bed & breakfast. Because it's summer they're having all kinds of artistic programs and some of them last an entire week. Because I have no holiday plans I've decided to help them next week. I've taken the time off and will spend the week and two weekends with them. It will be just like when I was a little girl. I visited them every summer and have a lot of fond memories from that time. I'm leaving this afternoon and will come back the next week on Sunday. Fortunately Calvin has promised to visit me, otherwise I would have missed him so much. He likes the bed & breakfast and my family, so he'll be happy to stay as long as he can.
It's market day again today, so the streets are very crowded. It usually means that we have a busy day at the library too. People are popping in to choose a few books before they take their purchases home with them. Gina and I just had lunch together. We love walking around and we often get Italian food, which we eat in a small garden. The weather is great and I just spent some time with my best friend. I'm happy and cheerful and I really like the summer. Because of the heat it doesn't matter that I'm not going abroad. Since our weekend away Gina and I have seen each other every day. She needs me right now and her company is doing me a lot of good, so it's a win win situation. Gina's love life is very interesting at the moment, so I love listening to her stories, but it's also complicated. I'm there whenever she needs a hug or when she could use a bit of fun. She'll take the girls and visit me for a day at the bed & breakfast. I'm sure they will love it there and I look forward to showing them around.

Glamping With Six Children!

I recently bought these wonderful sunflower dungarees from Asos. I decided to bring them when I went glamping with Gina during the weekend. I thought it would be a great idea to bring Marcy, Robert and Phoebe, so they could have a holiday. Gina took Brenda, Audrey and Iva. The two of us needed to look after the six of them. We did challenge ourselves, but I still think it was a great idea. Fortunately Robert didn't mind spending a long weekend with five girls. He found friends to play soccer and netball with soon enough and he liked being the wise big brother. We went to a beach town so we could build sandcastles and swim in the sea. It was great to spend time with Gina again. After all she's been through lately I was glad to see she could relax. We behaved like two little girls every now and then. It was wonderful to be young and carefree again.
We made two kites and tried to make them fly. Most of the time we all got tangled in the ropes and laughed until our stomachs hurt. There was a food festival that lasted from Friday until Sunday, so meals were very easy. We got ourselves a lot of tickets and tasted a bit of everything three days in a row. We allowed the girls to have several deserts, those kind of things should be possible when you're on a holiday. Robert felt like he was too old for that, but I sneaked him some treats as well, because I know how much he actually likes them.
Sleeping was a bit of a nightmare. The days were fabulous, but the nights were awful. We all slept in the same huge tent. There were several beds, but there was just one sleeping area. Robert and Iva snore and I'm a light sleeper, so that didn't work very well. Gina and I had to share the queen sized bed, but found Brenda, Iva and Marcy between us every night. I hardly had any space to sleep and turning or changing position was out of the question. Fortunately I brought books, so I could tell a lot of stories. We also played a running game with them before going to bed, to make them all tired. Exhausted kids can still be too excited to go to sleep though. We heard a lot of chatting, giggling and snorting. Audrey and Phoebe couldn't stop talking and they never seemed to tire. I was so happy to see my own bed again on Monday night. I think I need to sleep for a week before I'll be able to function properly again.
All in all the holiday was a huge success. It was exactly what we needed. For Gina and me it was the perfect opportunity to spend some time together and after so many difficult weeks, the kids could use a bit of fun. I never thought it would be so hard to keep an eye on six enthusiastic and active children. We did a great job though, we brought them home in one piece. There were a few tears, but we didn't have any major crisis situations. We only needed two bandages and those were for minor scrapes. Maybe we should do this again in a few weeks...

Lavender Likes The Summer!

I love pretty dresses and this beauty has been made by Fixdesign. It's summer and it's hot. A lot of my friends are on holiday and my family is a mess. Seth's health still hasn't improved and Dawn only has me and our mother to fall back on. Her two best friends don't have time for her, because they're both about to deliver their babies. It's hard for my sister, but I'm trying to help her as much as I can. Calvin has been a huge support. I'm also getting to know his family a lot better. I love spending time with Brooke and Amber, they are really sweet. I never had a mother in law before who made me feel welcome. Usually they wanted me to go, because I wasn't good enough for their sons. Marie is different. To her it only matters that Calvin is happy.
Gina's struggling with a lot of things at the moment. I'm trying to help her as much as I can, but she doesn't talk easily. I'm giving her all the time she needs, even though I think I should know a little bit of what's going on, so I can help her. I love my friend and I'm glad we've been spending so much time together lately. I've also seen more of Tessa lately. She took Gina in when her aunt died. I like Tessa, she's twelve years older than me, but you can't tell by the way she looks. She's getting along with everyone and she's kind to Gina, like a mother figure. Gina needs someone like that.
I've also seen Franka again. She gave me my first vegetarian cooking lesson. Franks (which is her nickname) is so cool. I love the way she talks. She's relaxed and comfortable in her own skin. I asked if I could bring Jada as we normally cook together and that was no problem. Next week we're going to prepare a special dinner for our loved ones. That's going to be so much fun. I've already looked up some great designs we can use for the menus and I've started making decorations. We want our Christmas in July dinner to be cozy and romantic.
I've started summer school. The group is quite small. Our book club is complete though, because we all want to improve our writing skills. The lessons are mainly focused on how to present yourself. We have an Oral Presentations class which is scary, but fun. Plus we have to write several articles to pass Advanced Writing. Rian is our Creative Writing teacher. He's told us a lot more about his books. It's fascinating to know that our serious teacher has written so many horrible thrillers. Our weekly tea meetings are still going well. Lately he's been cheerful and he looks content. Maybe he's met someone, I don't really dare asking him about it yet.
So much has been going on and it's certainly an eventful summer. I can't believe July is almost over. So far the weather has been great and I spent a lot of time in beach bars, having drinks with the friends who are staying at home as well. It's so relaxing to go there after a day of hard work. The library is quiet and we're trying extra hard to invite people in. A lot of the card holders are using our national free book app on their tablets or phones instead of coming over to borrow books these days. We've still got enough budget left, but I hope they will come back once they realize they miss book recommendations and holding something real in their hands. Nothing can beat that. Meanwhile I'm having great conversations with Edward and Zoe. I love the summer season. Good weather makes everything a little bit better.

My Week!

I love this cheerful Asos dress. It's perfect for the summer! I've decided it's my dress of the week. I love the combination of the two fabrics and I can never resist a nice floral garment.
It has been a busy week and because of my birthday celebrations I haven't blogged about my other days. There wasn't much to tell this week either. We postponed our Monday Night book club meeting, because it was my birthday. As Jada helped me preparing for the barn & garden party we also decided to have a Tuesday evening off. On Wednesday Calvin and I spent a lazy evening together. We drank a glass of prosecco on my balcony and talked about our relationship and how happy we are that things are going so well. On Thursday Victoria and Edward often host a party, but this week they went out for dinner together for their anniversary. Calvin and I sent them flowers and they had a lovely night. I hope we will still be together when we will be their age.
On Friday evening I went to Dawn to help her. Seth isn't doing very well. He isn't getting any better, but he's also not getting worse. Dawn tries to visit him every day and preferably with all of their children, so they can see their dad. I see they are getting used to the situation a little and slowly they're developing a new routine.
I've heard something from Stella. I was a little worried about her, because in the region where she's been stationed there have been some disturbances. She's all right though. Stella called to wish me a happy birthday and I've given her an update about Gina and how she's doing in the apartment. As far as Stella is concerned she and the twins can stay a while longer, because she won't be there for a while. They've just prolonged her stay.
I'm not used to evenings on my own and having lots of me time. I like the company of others. Calvin has spent most of the nights at my place, but he often works until late. I used my time to write and I hope some good will come of it. I'm getting more confident each day which is making me happy. I don't know if I'll ever be a great writer, but at least I'm a cheerful one.

My Birthday! Part 4

My birthday clothes came from Custo Barcelona. I love their cheerful and summery shirts and my mother bought me several. They sent my present in a pink box, which made me fall in love with the brand even more. My new clothes are really amazing and I'm sure I'm going to wear them a lot.
The party was in the barn and the backyard. My parents had invited Jim and my uncle, aunt and grandparents. Naomi and Louise were there, my book club friends came and Angie showed up. When Angie's there the party is great. She has that kind of magic and good things are always happening to her and the people around her. She started dancing and singing and all of a sudden everyone was in a merry mood. She brought Cameron, Jenna's soap star. I don't know how they've met each other, but they are a cute couple.
I asked Rian if he wanted to come and was surprised he actually showed up. I'm glad that he had Jim to talk to. They're both authors and they talked about books the entire time. It was great. Even Franka left her restaurant for an hour to wish me a happy birthday. Aunt Giselle and uncle Peter got along very well with Edward and Victoria. Some new friendships were made at my party, that's exactly how I like it.
I had the weather gods on my side this year. It was a clear, warm day. Fortunately my parents have a lot of garden chairs. Someone had brought five cocktail shakers, so we also drank mojitos, cosmopolitans and plenty of self invented strawberry cocktails. The champagne was rose, especially for me, because I think it has something extra festive. Everyone stayed a lot longer than I expected. Fortunately my mother had counted on it and there was a lot of barbecue food. I think I've never had a birthday like this before. I did miss Jenna and Lizzy a little bit, but other than that it was perfect.
Gina brought the twins and a girl their age named Iva. Dawn's children were there too. They could play in the garden and they jumped on the trampoline until they were completely exhausted. Calvin joined them and loved it, he couldn't stop showing off. He's like a big child with the children and he made everyone laugh with his jokes and his stupid tricks. He never tires and has unlimited patience too. He had a kind word for everyone and was definitely the star of my party.

My Birthday! Part 3

Jada and I needed some help to transport all the food we had prepared to my family's barn. Fortunately Calvin's business partner Lee came to help us. Calvin would meet us at the barn with more food and drinks and Lee was kind enough to be our chauffeur in exchange for an invitation. I was honored that he wanted to come. He gave me my present before we left and I was surprised he found me something so nice. I got this beautiful Disaster Designs La Boutique make up bag. I love it. It has so many great details. I will be able to put enough make up in it for a holiday, but it can still go in my handbag. It's gorgeous. I was also surprised that Lee had thought about bringing me a gift.
The drive to the farm didn't take very long and when we arrived Calvin was already waiting for us. He unloaded the car together with his friend and I was ordered to stop working, because it was my party. My mother gave me a glass of my favorite bubbles and then I was told to sit down and relax. I was worried about my birthday a few days before, but I shouldn't have. Everyone went out of their way to make it a nice day for me.

My Birthday! Part 2

On Sunday afternoon Jada arrived early to help me with my food for the party. She gave me this fantastic Tri-Coastal jewellery box and the wonderful Olives and Oranges cookbook. We prepared a lot of snacks together. I wanted several mini cakes with lots of chocolate, fruit and sweet toppings. We also made savoury cupcakes, canap├ęs and a big bowl of sangria. It all looked very cheerful, which was exactly what I had in mind for my sunny summer birthday party!

My Birthday! Part 1

My birthday started with the usual breakfast with Jenna and Lizzy. They made me a birthday cake. It didn't look very good though, but it tasted amazing and that's what counts right? I blew out my candles and then it was time for presents. As my friends know how much I like make up, they bought me some Lavera and Lily Lolo products. I love my gifts! I can't wait to try them.
There wasn't much news to share as we'd seen each other on Friday, but Jenna showed us photos of her ultrasound. They are amazing. The baby is so tiny! Jenna enjoys being pregnant very much and she's done a lot of baby shopping already. She's bought a lot of toys and cute clothes that are suitable for both a boy and a girl. She showed me photos of the furniture she's bought for the baby's room and she asked our opinion about prams.
Lizzy kept showing us her ring. I must have admired it at least twenty times, and it really is stunning. She's talking about the wedding non stop. She wants to include Jenna and me in the preparations as much as possible. That's really sweet of her. She's asked us to come dress shopping with her and we've set a date. I look forward to it maybe I can secretly check out some dresses for me as well. Calvin hasn't asked me yet, but I hope that's only a matter of time. Seeing my friends was a great beginning of my birthday!

Lizzy's Engagement Party

I shopped in my sister's closet again for a dress to wear to Lizzy's engagement party. I chose this wonderful Carven dress. Lizzy and Luke wanted an official and large party. I was surprised there were so many people. For their engagement alone they had invited a hundred people. It was more or less what I pictured my wedding would look like. Lizzy was wearing a simple and gorgeous white dress and Luke wore a tailored black suit. They are a stunning pair.
Even though so many people were present I kept also thinking about the two who weren't. Calvin has said it several times already, he thinks it's really time to let it go and to stop hoping things will be all right between my friends again. I'm trying and it really helps. I did have fun catching up with Jenna. She looked stunning in a black and white dress. She's starting to show and the little tummy looks lovely on her. There were lots of delicious snacks, so much champagne that it was like it came out of the tap and there was a great jazz band. Everyone was having a good time. Luke went on one knee to ask Lizzy to marry him again. It was all so cute and sweet. She's got a stunning ring, a white gold band with a huge diamond, the real deal.
Lizzy told me that Luke is designing a house for them. He's asked her what she likes and is designing the house of her dreams. Those are the advantages of being with an architect. She's so happy and I'm glad she's found the love of her life.

A Wonderful Summer Evening!

It was warm and sunny this week which meant that Edward and Victoria invited everyone for a barbecue on a weekday instead of a dinner. They have a beautiful garden with flowers around the lawn. A huge table was standing in the middle of it and Victoria had very stylishly decorated it with a purple and pink flower theme.
We were all supposed to sit down and let our hosts do the work, but Calvin and I are not like that. I love helping Victoria. She's such a sweet person. She and Edward want other people to enjoy their good fortune. They share everything they have, their money, home, hospitality and great food. Jim and Rian are both single and they are authors, it was a good idea of them to invite them together. The rest of the guests I didn't know. I'm often having dinner with Edward and Victoria, but every time I meet new people.
Calvin made a good business deal with a lady called Amelia, who's about to open a vintage themed tea shop. He's going to supply some of his teas and he'll share a few contacts with her. She will also sell dresses, aprons and a lot of gorgeous china. She started with an online business a few years ago and I can't believe I've missed her gorgeous shop. I instantly liked Amelia and I can't wait to see her new shop. She's kindly invited us to the opening. Our city has a huge shopping centre, but most of the stores are owned by large chains. It will be nice to be able to go to something small and local for a change. I am sure Gina will love that shop as well. She's very much into vintage and she often visits antique markets.
The barbecue was wonderful. The highlight was the strawberry chocolate cake Victora made for desert. Of course we all had way too much to drink to go home. This time I was ready and I brought another Modcloth dress to wear to work the next day. First we had a wonderful breakfast with berry pancakes. Edward and I were late for work, but the boss didn't seem to mind at all.

Facts about Jada

1) Jada loves to read about food. Her favorite book is Chocolat by Joanne Harris.

2) Jada and I are close friends now, but our friendship started in a weird way. We both dated the same guy named Oliver who was her long term boyfriend. They were engaged, only he didn't care about that when he started to date me. When she found out she was heartbroken. I was mainly angry at the guy. Jada and I have gained more than we lost from this nasty situation as I think this will be a friendship for life.

3) Jada loves unique jewelry and she often wears this ring. You can find it on Etsy.

4) Jada lives in a mansion. Her parents are loaded. She isn't a spoiled brat though, she's actually very down to earth.

5) Jada loves to cook. Her mother taught her most of the things she knows, but she also likes to try new recipes. She's a big fan of the Pioneer Woman and this is one of her favorite cookbooks.

6) Jada sleeps in a four-poster bed together with at least a hundred stuffed animals. She's been collecting them ever since she was a little girl.

7) Jada loves Sanrio and her favorite character is My Melody.

8) Jada likes being outdoors. She often goes on a hiking trip. She's met our mutual friend Stella on a forum. Stella was looking for a survival buddy to bring along on a week long trip in the mountains and Jada replied to her post. They decided to go as soon as they could and have been friends for years now.
9) Jada has a lot of eye shadow palettes. This one from Cargo is her latest purchase.

10) Because her ex-boyfriend Oliver didn't want her to work Jada hasn't got much work experience. She now has a job as an executive secretary, but she's quite old fashioned. If a man would sweep her off her feet and there is enough income for her to stay at home, she won't hesitate to do so. Her biggest wish is to have at least four children.

A Regular Friday...

Jack & Jones

I love wearing Calvin's shirts and I steal them whenever I have the chance. On Friday morning I woke up in his apartment with a bit of a hangover. I had to go to work, but didn't feel like it at all. I much rather would have snuggled under the covers with my boyfriend for a few more hours, but instead my pounding head and I needed to be at work. Friday also is teenager day and this week we talked about the Last Apprentice series. We'll read the new book the coming week and after the summer they will all be back for another series.
I wore Calvin's shirt to work with a jegging and a belt and it actually looked pretty good. I think I need to borrow his wardrobe more often. He had to work as well, so we didn't have time to sleep in. That's something I kind of miss about us. There are no lazy days, but fortunately we've got enough compensation for it due to the many other happy moments in our relationship.
I went outside for lunch with Gina and Zoe on Friday afternoon. There's always a market in the streets and at the squares near the library at the end of the week. We usually buy something to eat, or rather lots of food and cookies, and then sit down to talk somewhere. That's so much fun it's becoming a regular thing. We giggle, gossip and laugh until we are completely out of breath. Even though Gina is a bit quiet lately she seems to enjoy herself very much in our company. My two friends have already promised me to do an extra special birthday lunch, so I won't be completely friendless on my big day next week. Calvin also has some plans, but I'm not supposed to know what they are yet. Things are looking brighter than they did a few days ago.

A New Home For Old Friends

On Wednesday night I wore this wonderful Monsoon dress. I was invited for dinner by Louise and Naomi, in their new home. They've bought a cute cottage with a big garden. They both have a bedroom and a study and their own bathroom. They share the living room and the kitchen. Both of them love gardening and they have already started to rearrange the garden. Louise has her own vegetable patch with a small greenhouse and Naomi will be able to plant all of her famous flowers in one of the many flower beds.
They both showed me their bedroom. Louise's is old fashioned with floral wallpaper, pastel colored furniture and a large quilt on her bed. Naomi's is pink combined with chocolate brown. It's stylish and modern, but it still looks warm. They clearly spent a lot of time plotting and decorating and now they have a perfect new home. I'm happy for them, but I also felt a bit excluded. They're doing everything together and are a tight duo now. I felt like a third wheel and they're kind of behaving like they are a couple. That's how close they are. I'm glad they've both found a bit of happiness again, but it also makes me sad.
The dinner was nice, they clearly did their very best to prepare something nice. Naomi has a lot of new artistic friends and I can see Louise feels at home in that crowd. She's even applied for a job somewhere else. She wants to work at a smaller more easy going company. I hope she'll get the position as it would clearly suit her new life a lot better. I could see some closure now as well, they won't make amends with Lizzy and Jenna, they've moved on. Am I the only one who's been standing still? I'm afraid that is the case and I'm wondering where I do belong. I have to be ready for a lot of things I've never thought about before. Again something that might be a part of leaving our twenties behind. Next week it will be my birthday and I have no idea how I'm going to celebrate it yet. I love parties, but this year I can't ask all my friends and family, because not everyone will be available. What should I do?

Rian's Request!

I had to study this weekend. I wanted to spend my Sunday evening with Calvin and I did see him for an hour, because he came over with dinner and snacks that were supposed to give my brain some extra energy. That was really sweet. I didn't sleep much, because I wanted to cram as much last minute information into my head as possible. When I was a student I used to procrastinate until the very end, but that has changed. I've studied as much as I could practically every day, so I didn't have to spend my entire weekend in various states of panic. We have to sit through six exams in total and this Monday were the first two.  That means I still have a lot of studying ahead of me and I have two papers to finish. When will I ever find the time to write?
I wanted to dress into something easy, but nice and chose this Asos floral maxi dress. The back is bare, but as it was cold anyway I could combine it with a cardigan. The exams weren't easy, but because of all the studying I should have passed both of them. Afterwards it was of course time for my weekly meeting with Rian. I keep forgetting he's my teacher, because he's become such a good friend. He looked a bit happier this week, because his publisher has accepted his latest manuscript.
We talked about everything and nothing for a while, but I could see he had something on his mind. He had a request for me and it wouldn't be something I was going to like. Due to his nervousness I already knew before he opened his mouth to tell me. His parents will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary next weekend and his brother will be there. Because he doesn't have a date and he doesn't want to go alone he's asked me to come. I really don't want to, but he needs a support group. Nolan and Christie will come as well, I've convinced him to invite them too. That way he will have enough back up, but it won't look like a date. I'm already dreading it, but anything for a friend right?
