Suze Loves: Beautiful Covers

I have to admit that I buy books because of their cover. If the cover is ugly the story can still be great, so it doesn't work the other way around, but a beautiful cover makes me want to buy a book without even knowing what it's about. Covers can be true works of art and they're sometimes so gorgeous that they have to be admired.

If a book with a beautiful cover is as beautiful on the inside it's definitely a winner for me and I'll keep it. I would never get rid of a book of the cover art is stunning. I don't think covers don't matter, I think they do. Who doesn't want to look at something pretty? It's much more attractive if a book has stunning art on the outside. And I think artists who make those covers are heroes. They should be admired and celebrated and the work they do is very important. To some people it even matters a lot.

I love art in all forms and covers are part of the overall experience of buying a book. I often go through my selection of books, both paper books and kindle books, just to look at the covers. I especially like it when a book has raised lettering, colored sheets or glitters. Books like that are made to be admired, to be loved and cherished. Not only because of the story, but also because of their covers.

I think cover art and story writing are two completely different things. I know hard work and a lot of careful planning goes into the covers of books. I love that covers are being shared on twitter, I like looking at them. Now that the summer is near I'm already looking forward to bright colored happy images. Every season has stunning cover art and there's always something to look forward to. Looking at books is completely free, but it sometimes feels like being in an online art gallery. I've got so much respect for the artists, they deserve to be praised and to receive credit for what they do. I love cover artists and am happy they are there to make books even more special.

Book Talk: Traveling

Every time I pick up a book I feel like I'm traveling somewhere. Most of them are about places I've never seen. Some books have actual traveling as a theme, but it isn't necessary for me to feel like I'm making some kind of trip. I love traveling in my mind. It's great to discover new places and different times. In stories anything is possible, the options are limitless. There's so much that can be discovered just by opening a book.

Of course it's completely different to travel somewhere in your mind or in reality. When you're reading the author of the book is taking you, you have to see what they want to show you. It's amazing to see the world through someone else's eyes and it never stops to be fascinating. I love holidays, but as I can't go away all the time books are a great substitute.

It's fantastic to read about places I might or will never visit. Some of them aren't real and others are too far remote or not suitable for me at all. That doesn't mean I don't like fantasizing how it would be to go there. In my mind I've traveled the world, I've been almost everywhere, while in person there are so many places I still have to visit. I would also love to see more places that I only know from stories to see if the image I have matches the reality.

As the summer holidays are coming close I'm dreaming about traveling. Last year I traveled via books on my blog. I'm thinking about doing this again, but then in a more structured and organized way. I love book traveling and it's great that many people will have the chance to join me. It's such a wonderful feeling to share a journey. Book traveling is amazing and I can't wait to make my summer itinerary.

Beautiful Cover: Searching for Steven by Jessica Redland

When Sarah Peterson accepts her Auntie Kay’s unexpected offer to take over her florist’s shop, she’s prepared for a change of job, home and lifestyle. What she isn’t prepared for is the discovery of a scarily accurate clairvoyant reading that’s been missing for twelve years. All her predictions have come true, except one: she’s about to meet the man of her dreams. Oh, and his name is Steven.
Suddenly Stevens are everywhere. Could it be the window cleaner, the rep, the manager of the coffee shop, or any of the men she’s met online?
On top of that, she finds herself quite attracted to a handsome web designer, but his name isn't even Steven...
During this unusual search, will Sarah find her destiny?

On June 3rd this wonderful book will come out, I've already read it and loved it. It's a fantastic book about true love and how to find it. I like the theme, it's perfect for a summer read!

Best Friends... Forever? Landry's True Colors Book 2 is on Amazon now!

Landry Albright hopes the new year will start off in an amazing way—instead she has to deal with more frenemy issues, boy drama, and having most of her besties make the cheerleading squad without her. Suddenly, it seems like all anyone can talk about is starting high school next year—something she finds terrifying.

Landry gets her first boyfriend, but then gets dumped just as things come to a head with her friends. She feels lost and left out, but finds good advice from what she considers an unlikely source. Landry learns to speak up for what’s right, tell the truth (even when it hurts), and how to get past the fear of failure as she gets another shot at competing in the American Ingénue modeling competition.

Amazon US Amazon UK

I can't wait to read the second Landry's True Colors book. It's now live on Amazon and I'm so happy I'll be able to find out what happens next in Landry's life. Krysten is a fabulous author and her first book, True Colors, is amazing. If you haven't read it yet I advise you to purchase that story first. It's one of the most wonderful books I've read last year.

Lavender's Big Book Survey Giveaway

You will find my survey and giveaway at the end of this post.
Win a box filled with books and other great goodies!

It's World Book Day in the UK and Ireland today and for me that means I've won a lovely book and have been reading as much as I can. Books are so important, everyone loves stories. No matter how they're being told. I'm grateful that there's a lot of choice. Books are my life. I can't picture a day without reading. A good story makes me so happy. I'm glad they are there.
I've done some extra book shopping today, I've received amazon vouchers from my great friends Tanya and Sophie and I've spent them on the six books you can see here. I'm so happy with them and I can't wait to start reading. Books unite, through books I've found so many great friends already. I'm grateful that I've got such sweet friends to share my hobby with.

I've received these books as a gift from my mother and can't wait to find them in my mailbox. My World Book Day has been perfect and I'm really happy with everything I've received. World Book Day felt like a birthday to me.

Because I would love it if someone else feels like it's their birthday as well I will send the winner of this giveaway several books. You will get a box filled with seven books (I will send you a list and you can choose what you'd like to have from it) and lots of bookmarks, chocolate and other lovely goodies. All you have to do is answer a few questions, so every person has an equal chance to enter. You have to answer every question to be in the draw. Double entries will be deleted from my database, please don't enter with different email addresses while it's only for one person, be civil. Good luck!

This giveaway is worldwide as usual. I will keep the survey open for two weeks and will email the winner on March 20th. If I don't get a reply within 60 hours the prize will go to someone else.

Why I like YA

When I was twelve years old I started reading books for adults. Suddenly I was a lot wiser about life and love. A whole new world opened for me. My parents let me read anything I fancied from their shelves, so I didn't have to sneak around to get my hands on a book that I wasn't supposed to read. Teachers told me that it was way too early to read anything other than children's books at that age, but I was ready for something different and the step to adult books was the only one I could take.
I would have read Young Adult books at that age if they would have been available. It's something I've missed and I love the genre now, so I feel like I'm catching up. It's so important for teenagers to have something suitable and fun to read. A book with main characters who are the same age and are going through the same emotions is invaluable. I love the genre and will always be a supporter.
A lot of people are against adults reading Young Adult books, but I think it's all right to do that. If someone is eighty years old you don't expect them to read only books that have octogenarians as a main character either? I like books that have a good story and it doesn't matter how old or young the main characters are. I've read so many really good young adult books and part of me keeps wishing they would have been there when I was 12 years old and in the years after that.
I think books and stories are important when you grow up as they're giving you some extra, sometimes much needed wisdom. Every book has something to teach and I love it that there are so many good books available now. My 12 year old self would have had a blast with them. I didn't have access to a good bookshop and it makes me happy to see the current generation of teenagers has the possibility to spend their pocket money on books from the Bookdepository or the kindle shop. I think YA is a very important genre, one that's invaluable for teenagers and their parents. I love it and am a big supporter of the books and authors.

On My Wish List: The House of Frozen Dreams by Seré Prince Halverson

I've requested this book on Netgalley (I hope the publisher will approve me) and really want to read it. The cover is so pretty and the blurb is intriguing.

Blurb

Set in the stunning, eerie Alaskan mountains, this is a love story you will never forget.
Step into the home that lay empty for decades…
After a family tragedy, the old Alaskan homestead lay abandoned for two decades, until the one person who need it most came looking. What Kache found was more than a house full of old memories and buried secrets: he found Nadia, who had been hiding from the world, unseen, for ten years.
Held captive by a past too painful or too dangerous to face, they must now break free from what binds them in place – and face the ghosts that have never stopped haunting them.
Step into the house of frozen dreams…

Love for Books!

Whenever someone asks me what I'd like to have for Christmas or my birthday I always give them a very long list, my Amazon wish list. Books will always make me happy, I can't have enough of them. Which is also a bit of a problem, because I'm now getting review books which means I don't have as much time to read my own. Holding a potentially great story in my hands makes my day. Love is the most important thing in life and fortunately it's possible to also love books. I'm lucky as I have my love at first sight fairytale relationship and he loves to read. Together we can share our passion for stories and gathering knowledge.
When people don't know what to give me for Christmas I always ask them for an iTunes card. I live in the Netherlands and those are for sale in regular shops. With these cards I can buy both English and Dutch books and it's always the best thing there is to get some new books with my credit. Obviously it will never last very long as there's always something on my wish list that I'd really like to have.
It's wonderful to share my love for books in my own home, online and in conversations with my friends. While it wasn't so cool to read when I was younger now most people I know seem to love books. With e-readers the choice of books has become so much larger and there's something for everyone. The internet isn't the replacement of books, it's just an expansion, something I'm grateful for every day.
Books are magical and I'm lucky to be able to experience that magic every day. It is my life and the air I'm breathing. This year I've learned a lot, about reading, different genres and writing. I'm hoping to continue my journey. I can't wait to open my Christmas presents, to discover something new once more and to lose myself in the wonderful world of stories. I can't thank my husband, friends, family and the authors of the books enough for the joy they're bringing me.

December New Release Giveaway Hop

This month there will be a lot of great new releases again. These are the books I'm most looking forward to read. Some of them are in my possession already and about others I've still got high hopes as they're on my Christmas wish list.

Lavender Loves Wyrd and Wired! & Giveaway

I love it when damaged books are getting a new life. It's such a pity to throw them away while they can be transformed into something beautiful. In the Etsy shop Wyrd and Wired you will find a lot of pretty jewelry that has been made from books.

I'm a big fan of the comic book necklaces and earrings. They're fabulous and very unique.

Cynthia, the owner of Wyrd and Wired, doesn't only make book jewelry, she also has a wonderful selection of dice jewelry.

Whenever she goes shopping Cynthia's always looking for new game pieces or books that she can use to make her jewelry. I love the idea and think this store is fabulous!

Cynthia calls herself a Crafty Geek, because of her love for crafts and computers. She's been raised in a household filled with handmade items and crafting is definitely something that runs in the family.

With several different techniques a damaged text or an incomplete board game can come to life again. That's the beauty of this shop!

Cynthia has a degree in computer graphics and her jewelry is the physical part of her creativity. She's trying all kinds of new things to transform things she loves into things that will be loved by someone else.

I love gaming, board games, comic books and great jewelry and I'm so happy there's a shop where I can find a combination of all of those things.

Cynthia has a great blog where you can find all kinds of great creative projects. She's tried some great things and shows you how to do them yourself.

Enter Cynthia's generous giveaway to win $15 to spend in the shop. One lucky winner will be able to choose something from the entire collection Wyrd and Wired for this amount. There are so many different things and I'm very sure the winner is going to be very happy with the prize. Good luck!
