Cattier Paris Lip Care

Suplments

I bought this lip balm from Ecco-Verde (the link below the photograph is from a webshop that ships it worldwide), because I liked the packaging and the product description looked good. Cattier is a French brand that has been around for quite a long time. I'm a fan of organic lip products and ever since I started using this lip balm it's on my list of favorites.

The balms key ingredients are olive oil and wild mangoes. For me the taste and scent of a lip balm are quite important. I like the softness of the mango and the natural mild flavor. The lip balm isn't sticky, which is nice, and it's quite economical. I only have to use a little bit each time and that already leaves my lips soft and smooth. The nourishing effect is great and the price is really good for this kind of quality.

The ingredients of this lip balm are all eco-friendly and so is the packaging. That makes me like this brand even more. I'm happy with the lip balm and would love to try more Cattier products when I have the chance.

Black Dog Summer by Miranda Sherry

SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG WITH MY DYING.

Until the day of the attack, Sally and her teenage daughter Gigi lived a charmed bohemian life in the African bush. Now Sally is dead and Gigi has been sent to live with her aunt and uncle in the suburbs.
But Gigi's arrival stirs up secrets that were buried long ago. And Sally, lingering in the shadows, is powerless to stop them...

Sally has been attacked and she died, but she isn't completely gone. She can see what's going on in the lives of the people she loves. She's just a shadow and she can't influence anything that happens. Her daughter Gigi has to move in with her aunt, uncle and two cousins. Her cousin Briony isn't very happy with this arrangement as it means she has to give up her room. She didn't know Sally and Gigi very well, so she isn't really grieving. A lot has happened between her mother and her aunt and they weren't keeping in touch. Gigi isn't easy to be around and Briony has no idea how to handle that. Her mother is feeling sad, but there's also something else going on between her mother and father, so there's nobody she can turn to.

Briony loves magic, but when she discovers there is a form of it that really exists she isn't so obsessed with it any longer. She spies on her neighbor, but she gets the fright of her life while doing that. Slowly the happy family life she once knew starts to disappear. Gigi is hurting and there are shadows everywhere, is Briony too young to understand her cousin and the things that are happening around her? And does Sally have to witness the terrible things her daughter is going through without ever being able to intervene?

Black Dog Summer is a story about a complicated family history. When a horrible attack means the end of Sally's life her daughter has no choice but to live with her aunt and uncle. The families couldn't have been more different. The two sisters liked the same man and that didn't end well, so Sally disappeared out of her sister's life. Gigi has problems adjusting, she's used to much more freedom and she doesn't like living with her uncle and aunt. There's also something else that's bothering her.

There are so many secrets in this family and I couldn't wait to find out what they were. The magic aspect of the story was gripping and so well described. I could totally picture everything that happened. I liked the idea that the reader could see whatever Sally was seeing and the main focus on Briony worked really well. I was intrigued and interested from the first page and think the author has written an amazing book. I loved the story and enjoyed reading it very much. This book is so special, it's dark and it's horrible, but it's also beautiful and hopeful at the same time.

The Tea Dress Shop At Christmas by De-Ann Black

Blurb

Findlay sets out to build a new life for herself in Glasgow, and opens a tea dress shop in the city centre.

Is Gordan the man for Findlay, or perhaps McGarra? And will Christmas in Glasgow be everything she’s wished for?

Review

After a very painful breakup Findlay moves back to Glasgow to start a new adventure. She's found the perfect location for a shop and it even comes with a very cozy place to live. Findlay will sell the dresses she makes together with some beautiful vintage pieces. There will also be tea and cake for her customers. Her tea dresses are perfect to wear during the day and on an evening out and she's making matching bags to go with them. All women love her shop and it's an immediate success.

There are quite a few handsome men in her street. They keep visiting Findlay's shop to find out more about her or to ask her to go on a date with them. Soon she can choose, but is there really a choice for her? Will Findlay find new happiness in business as well as in love?

I read this novella with a smile on my face. It's such a lovely and sweet story. De-Ann Black has a great sense of humor and I sometimes had to laugh out loud too as there are quite a few funny scenes. Findlay is such a sympathetic main character, I liked her straight away. I loved reading about the dresses and everything that was going on in the shop. Of course the appearance of several handsome men helped as well. Everything about this story is exactly right, it cheered me up and made me happy.

Courage

Courage

Do you consider yourself a brave person? It's a question I've been thinking about a lot lately. Even though I'm very calm before surgeries, I'm determined to accomplish my goals no matter what and I'm prepared to face my fears and do something about them I don't think I'm very brave. I have to work on the following things, just like the main characters of some really great books I've read.

I don't stand up for myself enough. If someone says or does something I don't like I'm reluctant to say anything. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. It is better to say something every now and then though. I want to be a good friend, which means I have to be honest sometimes if it means I'm helping someone. I'm no doormat, I don't want people to walk over me, which means I have to speak up from time to time. I think I should be true to myself and keep being nice to people, but I have to work on being more outspoken.
Anatomy of a Misfit is a book about this subject. It's a really story with funny scenes which are often the result of the inability of the main character to speak her mind. I admit, I'm a little bit on the old side to have to learn this lesson, but better late than never right?

I don't dare to ask for help. Even if I need it badly it takes a lot of time before I say something, if I ever say anything at all. I think asking for help is a very brave thing to do and it's definitely something I need to learn. I want to fix everything on my own, but some things can't be done by one person alone. I need to grow and that means I have to learn to ask for something when I need it.
Bran and Talia both need to learn to open up to someone, to talk about their problems and to ask for help when they can no longer face their problems on their own. They learn that together they can achieve so much more. Again I'm so much older than these two, I'm catching up on my late teens and early twenties as you can see.

Giving everything I've got. I don't want to write with my foot on the brake any longer and I need to get more courage so I can give it my all. I want to start a new project, one that needs every ounce of creativity I possess. I could use a big dosage of courage to follow it through, as I really want to start that project.
Kylie has plans for the future, which means she doesn't do anything in the now. She's waiting to start until all circumstances are perfect and she's very much in control of everything. Like her I need to let go of that control and be creative. It's not important if all variables are exactly right. Being creative can be fun and relaxing which is very important. Kylie managed to let go and to start letting her creativity flow, I should do that too.

Asking for things I like or want. I'm not good at asking people for things. For my blog I need to be able to do this, but I'm far from brave enough yet. I should advertise myself more and send more emails for possible posts. I should be more bold and that takes a big dose of courage.
In the Love Goddess' Cooking School Holly needs to run a shop and start teaching cooking lessons while she doesn't have the knowledge. By being bold and appearing confident she's managing to keep her grandmother's business afloat until she masters every recipe she's trying. I need that fake it until you make it mentality. Even though I don't have the confidence now I will get it when I start putting myself out there.

As you can see I've chosen books with main characters from young to a bit older as mastering these skills will be a project. I need to cram a few years into just a few months, so I'd better hurry up and start the process. There's so much you can learn from fiction, there's always some truth in a story. That's why I'm using books as a source of inspiration. When I've reached the final stage I think I'll feel so much more complete, I'm sure of it. I will catch up, I will catch up and I will catch up. Being more courageous is my new resolution. I want to face my fears and conquer all of them. With the start of spring I'd like to start working on this. I will keep you posted on my progress. How courageous are you?

Sideswiped by Lia Riley

Blurb

It was only meant to last the summer . . .

Talia Stolfi has seen more than her share of loss in her twenty-one years. But then fate brought her Bran Lockhart, and her dark world was suddenly and spectacularly illuminated. So if being with Bran means leaving her colorless NorCal life for rugged and wild Australia, then that's what she'll do. But as much as Talia longs to give herself over completely to a new beginning, the fears of her past are still lurking in the shadows.

Bran Lockhart knows that living without the beautiful girl who stole his heart will be torment, so he'll take whatever time with her he can. But even though she has packed up her life in California and is back in his arms for the time being, she can't stay forever. And the remaining time they have together is ticking by way too fast. Though fate seems determined to tear them apart, they won't give up without a fight-because while time may have limits, their love is infinite . . .

Review

Talia and Bran have been given another chance to be together. Talia can finish her degree in Australia and Bran is studying for his honors at the same university. Bran has found them a fantastic place to live, so everything should be perfect, but it isn't. Talia is only there for a limited number of months and she's trying to decide what she wants to do with her life. Bran has been offered a fantastic chance and he doesn't want to take it, so he can continue living with Talia, but is that what she wants? And what about their past, have they truly been able to get over it or is it still very present in their lives?

After book one I almost didn't want to keep on reading as the ending was so beautiful, but I was also curious to find out more. Bran and Talia's story continues and they have grown in this book. They are more mature and they are more honest with each other. Bran is showing his vulnerable side, while Talia is trying to become stronger. They clearly need each other and what they need from one another is very important throughout the whole story. Not everything goes according to plan and sometimes I was almost afraid to keep on reading. I wanted them to be all right, but this book is like real life, which is filled with challenges.

Side Swiped has a lot of sexy scenes, which all have a purpose. During these scenes something meaningful always happens. I liked that aspect of the story a lot and I think the author has done a fabulous job with her intertwining. The writing is great, this is again an easy read, but with a lot of depth and emotional turmoil. I loved the development of the relationship between Bran and Talia. They really deserved another book. The second story of the trilogy is again a strong one. I read it in one sitting, because I couldn't put it down.

Upside Down by Lia Riley

Blurb

Twenty-one-year-old Natalia Stolfi is saying goodbye to painful memories and turning her life upside down with a trip to the land down under. For the next six months, she'll pretend to be a carefree exchange student. Everything is going to plan until she meets a surly surfer with hypnotic green eyes, and the troubling ability to see straight through her act.

Bran Lockhart is having the worst year on record. After the girl of his dreams turned into a nightmare, he slunk back to Melbourne to piece his life together. Yet no amount of disappointment could blind him to the pretty California girl who gets past all his defenses. He's never wanted anyone the way he wants Talia. A single semester abroad won't cover something this serious. But when Bran gets a stark reminder of why he stopped believing in love, he and Talia must decide if what they have is once in a lifetime . . . or if they were meant to live a world apart.

I won this book on twitter and instead received the complete trilogy via Netgalley.

Review

Talia's had a difficult time and because she needs a change of scenery she goes to Australia to study. Ever since her sister passed away her family has been falling apart. Because of her OCD Talia has almost failed her studies and now that she's taking some medication she's feeling a bit better, so she's determined to make things right. In Australia she wants to be the bold, carefree girl who doesn't have any problems, a person who's flirting and having fun. When she meets Bran she's immediately intrigued. He's damaged because of something that's happened with a girl he once loved. He swears never to open his heart again. That changes when he's with Talia, but he fights that feeling with all his might.

Bran and Talia are perfect for each other. They have such a beautiful connection and perfect chemistry. Unfortunately they have been through so much that it isn't easy for them to connect and to be in a relationship. It takes time to let go of all the defense mechanisms and the question is if they'll be able to do it. Will they make it as a couple?

I loved Upside Down, it's a very strong beginning of the Off the Map trilogy. Talia and Bran are great together and I understood their problems. I liked the amount of depth Lia Riley managed to put into this story. It's not just about the love between two people, but these two people have got so many difficulties and feelings they're struggling with. They are both strong, but they also want to deal with too many things on their own, because that was what they are used to. Because of that there are misunderstandings, fights and lots of sparks. The sexy scenes often mean a lot more than physical attraction and love alone. Talia and Bran never behave like victims, they are both fighters.

Lia Riley writes about sensitive topics. For example, she manages to write about OCD and not being healthy in such an amazing way, I really admire that. Actions have consequences and sometimes they're almost too much to live with. This theme was present throughout the entire book. It could have been a heavy story, but it isn't. Upside Down is a great read and I couldn't put it down.

Lavender Loves Valenwood Vixen! & Giveaway

I love Valenwood Vixen, it's such a lovely shop with stylish jewelry for decent prices.

The owner of the shop, Sarah, makes jewelry with real flowers, real butterfly wings (the butterflies haven't been harmed for this) and gemstones.

There's a selection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Sarah's appreciation for nature is the foundation of her shop. Nature's materials are unique, not one of them is the same. Sarah loves the simplicity and the individuality of what nature has to offer.

Sarah started her Etsy shop, because of her love for jewelry and crafts and because she wants to be able to spend as much time as possible with her son.

Resin is Sarah's material of choice. It offers so many possibilities and she manages to perfectly capture the beautiful flowers and wings she finds.

I asked Sarah how her Etsy adventure started:

I started working with resin about a year ago. I was looking for a creative way to preserve my son's first lock of baby hair, and thought resin was a good place to start. I am self taught, and experimented for awhile before finally figuring out how to really work with it and which resins worked best for me.  I ended up with so much jewelry from my experiments that I decided to sell some on Etsy! That was April of last year.

I love the way Sarah manages to capture the beauty of the items she finds. Her jewelry is simple and stylish and she lets what's inside the resin speak for itself.

Sarah doesn't only make jewelry of precious items she finds, but she also offers a service to capture something that's important to you in resin. For example a lock of hair or a flower from a wedding bouquet. I love this service and think it's a great idea.

I asked Sarah to tell me a bit more about what inspires her to make this kind of jewelry:

I am inspired mostly by nature. I love collecting flowers and leaves on my walks through the woods, and keep most of my jewelry simple to keep the focus on the natural beauty presented. I keep the clean and simple aesthetic going in my custom keepsake pendants as well- I am always so glad others find my visions worthy of their own keepsakes for their children's and loved one's hair lock keepsakes.

Sarah discovered resin when she wanted to do something wonderful with a lock of hair from her son, that's when Valenwood Vixen was born.

I love the name Valenwood Vixen. There's a reason behind it, which you can find on Sarah's about page. I've also copied it for you:

'I decided to call my shop Valenwood Vixen- Valen (strong, healthy), wood (forest), and Vixen because my jewelry should make you feel foxy... strong, Earthy, sexy.'

Sarah is a woman with a vision and that's something that's clearly visible when you visit her shop.

If you have a special request you can always contact Sarah, she'd love to help you and does everything she can to realize the wishes of her customers.

I asked Sarah what her plans are for the future:

I hope to continue creating for a long while- I love the creative outlet and chance to help others hold on to special moments and memories. People seem very drawn to my keepsake pendants- I have commissioned more of those then anything else! I have made keepsake pendants from all sorts of mementos- baby hair, a deceased loved ones hair, pets fur, horse hair, wedding bouquets.... The demand has gotten high enough I am contemplating opening another shop dedicated to memorial and keepsake jewelry.

The keepsake jewelry is such a fantastic idea, I'm one hundred percent sure that Sarah's going to make so many people happy with this service.

Sarah has offered a wonderful giveaway item. One very lucky reader of my blog will receive this amazing blue flower necklace. It's gorgeous, good luck!
