Interview
1) What’s your best Christmas memory?
My best Christmas memory is running downstairs with my brother and opening the door to the lounge and finding what looked like hundreds of presents under the tree. Why I remember this one time more than any other I have no idea but I know I was happy and excited so that’s why I’ve picked it as my favourite.
2) What are your 3 favourite Christmas reads?
I don’t have 3, I have 1 which is Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, even though I know the story really well I still love it. Until recently I’ve never really been a huge reader of Christmas books but ones that appeal to me have a nice story with good characters, set somewhere that makes you feel Christmassy and cosy. Preferably with snow, I love snow at Christmas.
3) If you could choose one person, dead or alive, to celebrate a one time special Christmas with, who would you choose and why?
Agatha Christie. Because I love her books and between discussing those and her travels with her archaeologist husband I think it would be a fascinating, enjoyable and educational day.
4) What are your thoughts about Santa?
I think Santa is great, to be honest. I don’t see any harm in believing in someone for a few years, like I did, and then realising when you’re old enough what actually happens. There are so many acts of cruelty against people these days that I think a bit of fantasy and imagination when you’re a child is a good thing.
5) What are your best and worst Christmas gifts and why?
Best gifts are always books or gift cards so that I can buy books. Worst gifts are ones that look like the person giving them hasn’t put any thought into it and has just handed over the first thing they could find.
6) Your favourite Christmas song?
White Christmas by Bing Crosby
7) Your favourite Christmas movie?
It’s a Wonderful Life of course! I love this film and watch it every year.
8) Top 3 books that you’re giving as Christmas presents?
I’m only giving one book as a Christmas present which is the audiobook of Brian Blessed’s autobiography Absolute Pandemonium. However, if I were giving more books as gifts I would also give Conditional Love by Cathy Bramley and The Little Bookshop on the Seine by Rebecca Raisin, both of which I have read this year and loved.
9) Most favourite and least favourite part of Christmas?
Least favourite part of Christmas is the commercialisation. I’m fed up with seeing Christmas stuff in shops in September and people spending money they don’t have on presents, that’s not what Christmas is about to me. Favourite part would have to be snow on Christmas day, which rarely happens. Also I love simply having time off work to relax, watch films and tv and read, absolute heaven for me.
10) I must ask, sorry – the best Christmas food is…?
All of it!?!! I love Christmas cake, but I also love Roast Turkey or Chicken with Roast Potatoes (which I’m very good at making), Honey Roasted Carrots and Parsnips and all the trimmings. I’m too traditional to want to eat anything else for my Christmas day meal.

The best christmas food is cinnamon rolls! For some reason in my family it is a tradition that for breakfast on christmas morning we eat cinnamon rolls. It is probably the only time I eat a one in the whole year and it is always the sign that it is christmas day!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree about the commercialization of Christmas and also cannot stand it when they start selling Christmas sweets in September not to mention festively decorating shops soon thereafter. And once the new year rolls around the same thing happens with Easter ... *very big sigh*
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Sadly Easter seems to be advertised, at least in chocolate form, before New Year now. :-(

ReplyDeletelovely interview! my fav memory is when I was small money was very tight, I ha a wonderful childhood, but there was only money for the essentials. every christmas my parents would treat me to pack of 12 cans of cols. I was allowed on on christmas eve and then one every day until they had gone. It was such a treat, I counted down the time until I could have a "special" drink. I made them last as long as possible as I knew I would have to wait until the following Christmas to have them again. It sounds crazy in this day an age that something so ordinary could be such a big deal but it really was. I still think about it now and I am really grateful that my parents did this for me. This memory means so much to me.
ReplyDeleteMy first Christmas tree was a piece of bamboo cut from our front yard, its branches trimmed to a pyramid. The first lights were the tiny, multicolored, blinking globes (firefly lights did not exist yet then).
