Review by Anniek

On the evening of her debut, her coming out into society, Victoria learns that her true faith is not attending balls. She is the heir of the Gardella family and the chosen one. Victoria needs to fulfill her destiny and be the next female Venator. Having her own strength combined with the strength of her family members who declined their prophecy Victoria is a very powerful and skilled vampire hunter.

Even though she is hunting and killing vampires she cannot escape her other 'destiny'. With her mother breathing down her neck, Victoria needs to attend the balls and parties to find a suitable husband. Philip knows that Victoria is coming out and he has been waiting for this moment a long time. Having met her when they were younger he never forgot the little dark haired fury. He can't wait to meet the woman she has become.

When the most powerful vampire of all, Lilith, is bringing death and devastation to their town. Victoria and her companion Max have no choice but to take them on. Will they succeed? Being a Venator comes with a lot of responsibility, people are depending on her. Now she has to make her own choice between her destiny and love. This choice will come with great sacrifice either way.

Colleen Gleason has created a fantastic story which will keep you awake and wanting more. In the beginning I had a little bit of trouble to get into it because of the old fashioned language. This really needs to be a part of the story because the setting is decades if not centuries ago. After the second chapter I was used to it and really was able to connect with the characters. I loved the fact that Victoria is a strong and independent woman who thinks for herself and is not led by the rules within society. She really is an amazing heroine.

This book had me on the edge of my seat and surprised me more than once. It really compelled me to keep on reading. I love a good story that has me questioning about what will happen next. Luckily I already have the next book of this series so I can continue reading. I can't wait to find out more and I love to be amazed. With this series I'm good to go.

Don't hesitate and grab this first book while it is still free and get to know Victoria and her companions in their quest of saving mankind.

  1. Sounds like a great read, I usually don't buy vampire novels but after reading your review, I think I'll give this one a try!
