All About Books: Books Are My Magic

By Suze

I love books and have taken a photograph of the books that I have stacked on my bookcases. I mix my books with treasures I find on Etsy. There are many moments during the day when I stop doing whatever was keeping me occupied to look at my books. They always bring me joy and a sense of belonging. My house wouldn't be complete without lots and lots of books. I love the good memories and possibilities of great stories they bring me. Books are magical, they manage to enchant me every single day.

I've been raised with books. In my childhood home there were books everywhere. My grandparents had even more of them. I couldn't imagine a life without books and still can't. When I'm visiting someone the first thing I do is taking a look at their bookshelves. The books people have chosen for themselves say a lot about them. It's fun to get to know someone through what they're reading. Of course that isn't the only tool I use, but it's definitely a handy one.

I once visited someone's office and it was covered in books from top to bottom on every wall. There was only room for a door, a desk and a chair. For me that meant this person had the best place to work in the whole world, but the owner of the office confessed he didn't read most of those books and he hadn't made any attempts to start on them either. I couldn't understand as how can anyone own many great books and not read them? Of course I know that not everyone likes reading, but having an office filled with something you don't like is probably a sad place to go to every day while it's someone else's heaven. I learned a lot from that visit about people, about books and about preferences, but I never managed to get it out of my head.

I want to live inside my books sometimes. I wouldn't mind being able to step into stories and look around at all. I love them so much that I can't stop reading. Stories are keeping me going, they're my fuel and my lifeline next to love. It's why I try to show other people how much fun reading can be. I've been lucky enough to have good teachers. In my ideal world nobody would be sad in an office like the one I described. I feel sorry for the books that weren't loved and every single day I wish someone will rescue them. I'm one of those people who feels protective of stories and wonder if that is because of their magic?
