I love Delline Designs, a shop filled with the most beautiful jewelry.
The owner of the shop, Delia, makes gorgeous detailed polymer clay pieces.
I'm in love with her intricate and colorful designs.
I've asked Delia a few questions to find out more about her and her work.
Where have you learned to work with polymer clay?
I have no artistic background. After I became a mother, I discovered my
artistic side trying to keep my daughter busy and develop her
creativity by crafting all kind of things.
I discovered polymer clay by mistake in fall 2013. I was looking for
dough figurines when I accidentally saw a tutorial for a floral cane on
Pinterest. That lead to other tutorials and to boards of polymer clay
jewelry. I was amazed and I literally could not stop pinning.
I went to a hobby supplies shop, bought my first blocks of polymer clay
and started playing. It amazed me how versatile this material was. I
started to learn from tutorials, made lots of experiments. My first
trays of jewelry ended up burned and my first pieces were uneven.
But, as Bram Stoker says in Dracula, “We learn from failure, not from success!”
Anyway, I was over the edge with my new jewelry and I wore my creations with so much pride and joy. My friends saw the results of my new hobby and encouraged me to continue. They were my first buyers and admirers.
What inspires you?
Anything or anyone could be an inspiration to me. I am inspired by
nature, flowers, walking in the woods, paintings and children books,
myths and legends.
Sometimes I find inspiration in other artists' work - a flower from here,
a leaf from there, a mix of colors from a piece, a texture from
another. I combine all those elements in a piece of my own stile.
Sometimes I am pleased with the result, sometimes I am not... however
the result is either a lovely piece of jewelry that I am proud of, or a
lesson learned.
How did your Etsy adventure start?
I love making jewelry. I can't wait to sit at my working table and play
with clay. But as I kept experimenting and making new pieces, I had soon
a big collection. Many of the pieces were given away as gifts. My
friends encouraged me to start selling them and it was an idea that
stuck with me.
Since I found this wonderful place called Etsy where crafters and
artists from around the world sell their works, my dream was to become
one of them.
I opened my Etsy shop in July 2014. It was a slow start, a new lesson to learn. It took me a long time to choose the jewelry I wanted to show to the
world. I took pictures of them several times until I was pleased with
the result. I wrote and rewrote the description of my items.
My first overseas order came in January 2015. I was so thrilled I danced around my working table.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future I like to picture myself working in my own craft room in the house we are planning to build at the countryside.
I plan to learn new jewelry-making techniques. I would like go to artisan markets to meet other crafters, make new friends, share my accomplishments and failures and learn from the experience of others.

Your work is very delicate, how do you make something so small?
Well, the results came with time, with lots of finished pieces and lots of experiments.
Most of my pieces are made with the “appliqued technique”. Every detail is hand sculpted, without the use of molds. The tiny pieces of clay are applied with a sharp needle to create the delicate “embroidery” effect on the surface of polymer clay.
I was mesmerized from the first pieces of jewelry I saw made with this technique. I spent hours looking at the pictures, trying to understand how it was done. My first creations were clumsy, the details uneven. But with every item I made, the pieces started to fall into place.
I aim to make unique jewelry, that tells a story. When it comes to my work, I love the details and the texture that can be given to sculpted jewelry. I am still amazed how the details make a piece a lively painting.

I think Delia is such a skilled artist. She makes pieces of jewelry that are telling a story, I like that a lot.
There are so many details and everything comes together really well.
I love the idea of buying something that has been made with so much love, care, attention and devotion.
I love the way Delia combines her colors.
Her compositions are fantastic.
There's also the option to buy things that are matching.
Delia loves making custom orders, so if you'd like her to create something for you, feel free to send her a message.
