Australia Weekend: Jilted by Rachael Johns - Review and Giveaway

She'd left him at the altar, but her heart was always his…
After more than ten years away, Australian soap opera star Ellie Hughes returns to the small town of Hope Junction, determined to fly under the radar while caring for her injured godmother, Matilda.
But word spreads fast in the tight-knit community. It isn't long before the people of Hope Junction are gossiping about the real reason for Ellie's visit and why she broke the heart of golden boy Flynn Quartermaine all those years ago.
Soon Ellie and Flynn are thrown back together, forced to deal with the unresolved emotions between them. Because Ellie is not the only one with secrets. Flynn has his own demons to battle, and Matilda is hiding something from her much-loved goddaughter.
When all is uncovered, can the ill-fated lovers overcome the wounds of their past? Or is Flynn destined to be jilted again?

Review

Ellie is a famous television star. A lot of people in Australia love her, but in Hope Junction people don't like her at all. Everyone in her home town hates Ellie because of something she's done years ago. She didn't show up at her own wedding leaving Flynn, her husband to be, heartbroken. Now she's back to take care of Mat, her godmother. With Mat Ellie has spent the happiest years of her life. When she went out of town just before the wedding Ellie made a mistake and she felt so ashamed that she left her home and everything she loved immediately afterwards. She became a soap opera star by chance and the work is something she loves, the one good thing in Ellie's life.

Being back in Hope Junction brings back a lot of painful memories for Ellie, but she isn't the only one who's hurting. Flynn hasn't been able to get over her properly. Even though he's made a success of his farm and is loved by everyone he's still missing something or maybe someone... He's even more handsome than he used to be and it's difficult for Ellie to be around him. Will they be able to become friends again? Or does Ellie have to run away from the town again and leave her sick godmother behind?

Jilted is a romantic story with a wonderful setting. I love small town stories and Hope Junction is the perfect place for a good love story. Rachael Johns knows how to reveal secrets, I was really anxious to find out what Ellie was hiding. Flynn is a broken man in many ways, but now that Ellie is back he finally has the chance to heal properly. I liked that about the story. Ellie is constantly struggling. There's the town's opinion, her godmother's health, her secret she can't talk about and her feelings for Flynn. She stays strong and she's always herself. I loved that about her.

Jilted has some depth as well, it isn't just a light and easy read. Rachael Johns doesn't spare her characters, but she makes them resilient enough to deal with whatever is coming their way. I like that she writes about life exactly how it is, with ups and downs. She doesn't sugarcoat things and that makes her stories believable and real. Everything about this book is right, it has a great characters, interesting secrets, good timing and an impressive love story. I think Jilted is a fantastic book, I absolutely loved it.

  1. Small town romance has its own uniqueness since everyone knows about you and your romance. If supported by the small town, it blooms. If not, the adventures and struggles bring twists to it.

  15. How the characters are made to interact and the interesting twists it brings to the story. Then there is how normally the love would be supported by the other members of the town and it would bloom. Mainly the intimacy and scandal that can be found in such a romance.
