Fabulous Freebie: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

When spoiled child Mary Lennox loses her family to a cholera outbreak, she moves to her uncle’s manor surrounded by a massive garden. Within, Mary discovers a whole new outlook on life thanks to a supportive household and the garden’s power of healing.

This is one of my all time favorite books. At school I had to read English books for my English class and this was the first English book that I ever read. I loved the story so much!

In the beginning of this book you won't like the main character, Mary, very much. She is spoiled and not nice to anyone around her. It isn't really weird she's like that because her parents are neglecting her and she's being raised by servants. When the cholera outbreak kills almost everyone Mary has to move to the English countryside to live with her uncle. The story actually begins at her uncle's house.

The Secret Garden is beautiful, not only to read by yourself, but it can also easily be read to your children. Frances Hodgson Burnett has described the garden so perfectly that I can see myself sitting there, enjoying all the beauty around me.

If you have never read this classic please do, you will love it! And just like me you will keep this story close to your heart forever. You will think about it from time to time and open it again and again.
