Fabulous Freebie: The Deepest Cut by J.A. Templeton

Sixteen-year-old Riley Williams has been able to see ghosts since the car crash that took her mother's life and shattered her family. Guilt-ridden over the belief that she's somehow responsible for her mom's death, Riley is desperate to see her mother's elusive spirit to gain her forgiveness.

When her father moves the family to Scotland so they can all start over, Riley believes her life couldn't get worse––that is until the ghost of nineteen-year-old Ian MacKinnon catches her purposely cutting herself. An uneasy truce quickly turns into friendship, and soon Riley's falling hard for Ian.

Riley believes her gift could help Ian end the curse that has kept him tied to the land for centuries, but that would mean letting him go forever and she's not sure she is strong enough to do that. As if her life wasn't complicated enough, the malevolent spirit of the woman who killed Ian returns and she'll stop at nothing to keep Riley from helping Ian find eternal peace.

Review by Anniek

I have found such a great freebie!

When Riley moves with her father and brother to Scotland they move into an old Inn. When this Inn is described it really sounds like my kind of place, but without the ghosts please.

Riley wants to help Ian (a 200 year old ghost) to cross over to the other side. He is bound to earth because of a spell that has been placed on him. Besides the fact that she can see ghosts, Riley is having a tough time. Trying to cope with the death of her mother and trying to fit in as the new kid in town is hard. Also trying to connect with her brother again is difficult.

In this story you will find love and dedication and pushing through even when times get rough. I absolutely loved this story and I will definitely buy this whole series as I cannot wait to read on and see what happens next! This book was a real pageturner. I finished it in no time. It was easy to picture Riley's new home and surroundings and I think J.A. Templeton really made this story come to life.

The first book is for free, but there's also a box set with all four books of this series.

It is said on Amazon that if you're a fan of television shows like Ghost Whisper, Medium and Vampire Diaries you will love this book, I totally agree with that.

CS Literary Jewelry is Etsy Seller of the Week! + Giveaway

My Etsy Seller of the Week is CS Literary Jewelry. I'm in love with the jewelry in this shop, it's so special.

The owner, Kerry, makes jewelry inspired by classic books, poems and literature. Her jewelry isn't only pretty, it's also the perfect gift for any book lover.

I've asked Kerry a couple of questions to find out more about her and her shop.

When did you start your Etsy shop and how did the adventure begin?

I started my Etsy shop 2 ½ years ago. I had just recently been laid off from my corporate job as an Executive Assistant – the second time I had been laid off from the same company – and decided that it was time to make a change. I started taking some college classes with an eye towards becoming a high school English teacher. At the same time, I opened my Etsy shop, originally selling beaded jewelry and hand-knit accessories, as a way of earning some extra money while I went to school. Pretty soon, the books and poems that I was reading in class started to find their way into my jewelry. I was really excited about this new direction to my work so I dropped the knitting and decided to focus my energy on my literature inspired jewelry.

 What inspires you?

I’ve been an obsessive reader and writer ever since I could remember so I find most of my inspiration from books, poems, and the beauty of the written word. I am also inspired by history, culture, theatre and Broadway musicals.

Where did you learn your craft?

I learned the foundations of jewelry design and beading from some great local teachers and then went on to learn other skills, like working with resin, on my own.

Your jewelry is about books. Are there any particular books / quotes from authors you’d love to use for your work?

Most of my work revolves around classics like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and the works of William Shakespeare – partly because of how much I love them and partly because they are in the public domain and I can work with them without worrying about copyright issues. However, if I could work with any book / author in the world, I would love to design jewelry inspired by The Catcher in the Rye, the poetry of Dorothy Parker, almost anything by Neil Gaiman, and The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle.

What are your favorite books?

It’s hard to narrow things down to just one or two books but here are some of my favorites: Pride and Prejudice, (and Persuasion) by Jane Austen, The Anne of Green Gables books (and everything else written by Lucy Maud Montgomery), Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle.

In terms of poetry, I love Billy Collins, W. B. Yeats. Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Shel Silverstein (who taught me to love poetry in the first place). I am also totally obsessed with the T. S. Eliot poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.”

What are your plans for the future?

I plan on continuing to grow my business. I am looking to learn a few new techniques that will open up new design possibilities. I just introduced child-sized literary necklaces (etsy.me/1qBqoeN) for kids who love to read books like Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, etc. and I am hoping to expand that series. I also am looking on getting my jewelry into some bookshops, tea rooms, and other brick and mortar business where it can be discovered by a wider audience.

Could you tell a little bit more about the tea in your jewelry?

I come from a family of tea drinkers. Whenever my grandmother, mother, and aunts would get together, the tea kettle was always on and I grew up having tea parties with my sisters and cousins while the older ladies in the family chatted over cups of tea. When I was little, my grandmother introduced me to her favorite childhood book, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, and I remember having a tea party with her and talking about which of the March sisters were our favorites while I poured tiny cups of tea out of my miniature teapot. This memory of talking books and drinking tea inspired my Novel Tea Necklace series, (etsy.me/1rqu5mj), and especially my Tea with the Little Women necklace. (etsy.me/1osafej)

I also love curling up with a great book and a cup of tea and agree whole-heartedly with C. S. Lewis when he said “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

Lastly, I am just very charmed by the idea of being able to slip into some of my favorite books and have tea with great fictional characters like Mr. Darcy, Sherlock Holmes, Anne Shirley, and Jane Eyre and my Novel Tea Necklaces were the closest I could get to being able to do that.

Is there any other information you'd like to share?

I am really blessed to have a great community of customers and friends who encourage and support C. S. Literary Jewelry. From great chats on Facebook to an online book club - we are currently reading Dickens' A Christmas Carol (csliteraryjewelry.com/christmas-carol/) - I find so much joy and inspiration in talking to and getting to know my fellow book lovers and I would like to invite you all to come join in the fun on:

Christmas Countdown Giveaway: Merry Christmas by Suzanne

I love Christmas, it's my favorite time of the year. I usually read my first Christmas book in July, because I can't wait any longer. In September it's time to start buying gifts. Gradually I'm adding things to my list over the next couple of months. It makes me feel festive straight away.

Then at the end of November it's time to go Christmas shopping. Belgium isn't that far, so my husband and I always go to Brugge to buy Christmas ornaments. I'm such a big fan of Kathe Wohlfhart and I don't want to miss the chocolate covered oranges from one of the many chocolate shops in the city.

If we have time in December we love to be in the Alsace. We even celebrated our honeymoon there. There are so many lovely cobblestone villages there. One of them is Riquewihr which is very popular, but for me the best town for Christmas shopping is Kaysersberg. I love all the little festive shops and have found many gorgeous Christmas decorations there.

In December we celebrate Sinterklaas on December 5th first and then it's time to start decorating. I also have to write lots of cards and I'm sending presents to my friends abroad. The weeks before Christmas are always so busy and I like the buzz. I have three Christmas trees. They're all standing in my living room and all the baubles and other decorations are different. I can't stop looking at them and can spend hours sitting and watching, being alone with my amazing memories.

Christmas is such a magical time for me and I'm feeling very lucky and blessed.

It's finally time to celebrate. Merry Christmas everyone!

My prize will be a book from the Bookdepository and happy mail!

Christmas Countdown Giveaway: Memories of my Lovely Dad by Lynda Renham

Christmas for me means memories of my lovely Dad. He’s the person who gave me my sense of humour and I am forever grateful to him for that. I wouldn’t be writing romantic comedies if it wasn’t for him I am sure.

He loved Christmas and would go overboard. There would be so much food in the house that you always left feeling sick and bloated and he wouldn’t have it any other way. There would be presents galore and he enjoyed nothing more than watching us opening them. Christmas wasn’t Christmas unless he dressed up as Santa and this caused more than its share of problems when he did this for my nephew. He would knock on the door and one of us would let him in. One particular year was a bit hairy though when my nephew James started calling ‘Granddad, come and see Santa.’ And even more hairy when James insisted Santa stay until Granddad came back from wherever he had gone. ☺ We got ourselves out of it somehow but I’m not sure how.

I remember there always being lots of Eggnog and Babycham at my parents’ house. Ooh and Cherry Brandy. Those were the days.
So at Christmas I always remember my lovely Father and I miss him terribly. I was not able to have children so I missed out on the pleasures of seeing my own children open presents on Christmas Day. But since marrying the doctor AKA Andrew my husband (you can read more about me, the doctor and our cat Bendy on my web page www.renham.co.uk) I’ve a ready-made family and this year my stepson and his wife and four year old son will be spending Christmas Day with us along with Andrew’s other son. I have bought so many presents that the bedroom is overflowing. So much so I think we will have to carry some over to Boxing Day.
Christmas in the village where I live is also very festive and of course merry. There is nothing nicer to waking up on a snowy Christmas morning in a quiet village and to hear the church bells ringing. There are lots of social occasions leading up to it too which I enjoy. Lots of mulled wine, mince pies and stollen cake. And of course the window decoration which we have done in our little village this year and you can see for yourself how pretty they are.

My stepson will be cooking the dinner, which will give me a chance to be lazy for once. That is until the Saturday after Christmas when I have 12 people coming. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Except maybe my Dad with us, if that were possible. But we shall certainly toast him on the day.
I hope you all have a fab Christmas and spend some of it reading one of my books. Well I can hope can’t I?

The Little Christmas Kitchen by Jenny Oliver

Christmas at the Davenports’ house was always about one thing: food!
But when sisters Ella and Maddy were split up, Ella to live in London with their Dad, and Maddy staying in Greece with their Mum, mince pies lost their magic.
Now, a cheating husband has thrown Ella a curved snowball…and for the first time in years, all she wants is her mum. So she heads back to Greece, where her family’s taverna holds all the promise of home. Meanwhile, waitress Maddy’s dreams of a white Christmas lead her back to London…and her Dad.
But a big fat festive life-swap isn’t as easy as it sounds! And as the sisters trade one kitchen for another, it suddenly seems that among the cinnamon, cranberries and icing sugar, their recipes for a perfect Christmas might be missing a crucial ingredient: each other.

Amazon

Review by Tanya

This is a very different Christmas book with part set in London and part in Greece.  It’s about the life of two sisters, Maddy and Ella, and how they were split up to live with different parents. Maddy lived in London with her Dad and went to a boarding school and Ella stayed with her mum in Greece helping to run a little Greek tavern. This is set when the girls are older but shows how these events affected their lives as they grew up.
Maddy initially seems like a confident woman that has it all but the betrayal of her husband sends her back to Greece and the hopeful comfort and support of her mum. However, things are difficult between them as they have missed the crucial years of bonding. Her sister Ella does not help as she is wary of her sister and does not make her feel very welcome. Things improve when Maddy gives Ella the money for the flight to be able to pursue her dream of singing in London for the Christmas period.
The story of how their life develops and changes over the Christmas period in the different countries is lovely to read. There is the picturesque snow scene in London in comparison to the initially warm and sunny scene in Greece. The relationship between mother and daughter changes and Ella sees her dad for the first time in a long time.
The book has a nice positive feel to it and makes you feel warm and hopeful inside.

Christmas Giveaway 3: Owls!

I know so many people who love owls, so I'm giving away some lovely owl prizes. Enjoy and good luck!

Christmas Gifts at the Beach Café by Lucy Diamond

With her Cornish Beach Café closed for the winter, Evie Flynn should be looking forward to lazy days and a happy Christmas, with nothing more pressing to think about than when to have her next mince pie.
But her sister Ruth is coming to stay, in a cloud of heartbreak and bitterness following her marriage breakdown, along with her three unhappy children, and Evie knows she'll have her work cut out, trying to spread some festive cheer. Then her boyfriend Ed breaks the news that he's going to spend Christmas in London, for family reasons, and her heart sinks even further.
Add in to the mix a lost dog plus the hotly contested village Christmas bake-off and before long, Evie is feeling the strain. But there are still a few surprises in store for her, that look set to make this Beach Café Christmas the most memorable one yet...

Amazon

Christmas is Evie's favorite time of the year. She loves spending it with her boyfriend Ed and she's been looking forward to the relaxing and festive days all year. Unfortunately this Christmas things will be different. As Evie's sister Ruth just went through a nasty and heartbreaking divorce she and her children will be spending Christmas at the Beach Café. Evie always feels uneasy in her sister's company, because Ruth is quite bossy and critical. When Ed announces that he's going to spend Christmas with his mother, because she will be alone otherwise, Evie's dreams are shattered. She's very sad that she has to miss Ed. Fortunately Ruth, the children and a lost dog bring some distraction. And of course there's also the village bake-off. Will Christmas be as horrible as Evie is expecting it to be or will it be nice after all in a different way? And is Ruth going to feel better after spending some time at the Beach Café with her sister?
I love the Beach Café books and it was great to read about my favorite fictional café again. Evie isn't feeling very well and she's trying to make Christmas as nice as possible for her sister and her children. They're all having a wonderful time at the beach and for the first time Ruth can relax a little bit. It was great to get to know a bit more about her. Family is important and even though the sisters are very different it doesn't mean they won't be able to get along. I liked that and also that Evie started to feel like an equal to her sister. They're becoming so much closer. This novella was exactly what I expected it to be, a nice, cozy and sweet story with a wonderful ending. It made me really happy to read that. Christmas Gifts at the Beach Café is festive and perfect for an evening of holiday reading.

Christmas Countdown Guest Post: I LOVE Christmas by Anniek

Guest post by Anniek

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I really think it is, I LOVE Christmas! I love the lights, the cozy feeling and being together with our family. We always have a real tree. My husband buys the tree each year and usually comes home with the saddest one (ugly is so not a nice word for a Christmas tree). But I do my best to decorate it in the most wonderful way possible.

Last year my son was born. When Christmas came he was only 3 months old so he was just sleeping in mama’s arms. This year he is getting to see his very first Christmas tree. He loves lights. Well I’ll put a lot of extra ones up for him.

During Christmas we also celebrate the birthday of my grandmother. She will be 90 this year! And I will be having my own birthday right after Christmas as well, so as you all understand it’s a very special time of the year for me.

I’m looking forward to the coming year. A year I hope we will be kind for one another and of course I hope for lots of health, happiness and luck for everyone.

To celebrate Christmas and to give a little Christmas love I’m giving away a box set of Christmas books to two winners. I hope you’ll love them as much as I do!

ENJOY your holidays! Have a great and fantastic Christmas and be kind and loving. I wish you all the most fantastic 2015 ever!

Fabulous Freebie: Seasons of the Moon by SM Reine

When Rylie went to summer camp, she didn't expect to get bitten by a werewolf and turn into a monster. She also didn't expect to fall in love--especially not with a werewolf hunter.

Between ravenous werewolf packs, a bloodthirsty family of hunters, and Rylie's battle with her inner wolf, all the odds are stacked against Rylie's love for Seth. But Seth will do anything to be with her... even if it means turning against his family and sacrificing everything.

Amazon

Review by Anniek:

I love it when freebies come in box sets! It gives the reader a very good impression of what the series is about and where the writer is heading.

The main character Rylie is sent of to summer camp so that her parents can divorce (read fighting over everything) in 'peace'. She feels really ashamed when her father drops her off at camp, not knowing that she will have to say goodbye to him that same summer. They don't really accept her in her camp group and when she flees in tears and goes deep into the woods she is bitten by a werewolf. Of course she doesn't know that immediately but a very nice boy from the boys camp seems to have all the answers for her. His name is Seth and he is also willing to help Rylie out within all the stuff and changes that are happening to her.

I absolutely love the way the story keeps you guessing and wondering what will happen next.....
Rylie needs to keep the camp leaders distracted because she has been caught in the act a few times. Has this summer camp been built in that particular location for a reason? Is Seth there for a reason? Why is Rylie not being sent home when she gets into trouble lots of times? Find out for yourself and pick up this book set from Amazon! You will not be disappointed and can keep on reading after book one.

The people who are following Suzanne's blog maybe remember that I did a review about a series by S.M. Reine before. This series ( the first 3 books) is also still available for free on Amazon!

Enjoy reading again! If you love the paranormal fantasy genre you will LOVE, LOVE AND LOVE both box sets!

Christmas Countdown Giveaway: Gina Henning's Top Ten Christmas Movies

My Top Ten Christmas Movies

I love celebrating the holidays and look forward to filling up my DVR with all the Hallmark and other Christmas Movie specials.  Here is a list of my top ten Christmas movies.

All I Want for Christmas- I love this movie. It is set in New York City and is kind of like a parent-trap coming of age film and that includes Lauren Bacall as the grandmother.

Love Actually - This movie has several different vignettes of couples and families celebrating over the holidays. There a few scenes that are real tear jerkers, but I watch it over and over regardless.
The Holiday - This is a sweet movie about two women with guy troubles that switch houses for the holidays.
Home Alone- This movie has so much fun in it. The outsmarting of the crooks, the gadgets and it has a great message about family.
Bridget Jones’s Diary-Who can resist Colin Firth in a Reindeer Sweater?
Christmas in Connecticut- A take on the concept of what happens behind closed doors might surprise you.
I’ll Be Home For Christmas- This is a funny movie about a kid trying to get home for Christmas.
A Christmas Story- One of my favorite scenes is the dinner table, “show mummy how the piggy eats”.
The Family Stone- This flick shows the dynamics of families over the holidays.
Miracle on 34th Street- A classic with the true meaning of Christmas.
And I always enjoy: The Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas Movie Collection.
Wishing you a Christmas filled with great films and happy memories!
~GINA
