My Precious Library

Working in a library can be stressful, but it can also be a lot of fun. I love it when I can read to children, but when there are inspections and budget cuttings things are looking rather grim. We're doing everything to be as inviting as we can be. There are still people who love books. When I think about the library I'm always reminded of my childhood. It was so much fun to choose new books. As my parents sometimes needed a while before they found what they were looking for I spent a lot of time reading at one of the tables. One book that triggers a memory in particular is Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach. I read three quarters of the book and had to leave it behind, because I wouldn't have enough books for the rest of the week if I'd borrow it. The next week it was gone, and the next. I never found out the ending. I still regret that, so maybe I should finally pick up the book again to find out.
Seeing all those rows of books is still my favorite part of the job. I'm working in a modern library, but when I enter and see the shelves I'm being transported to a different time. Every morning there's a moment when I'm ten years old again. Even at that age I preferred going to the library instead of the sweet shop. I love sweets, but stories are my universe, my world and my oxygen. Every day I'm grateful that there are authors who have taken the time to write the books that are making my life so much better. I can't imagine a world without my precious library.

  1. Great post :) I think it would be so great to work in a library and be surrounded by books everyday. I love these Lavender stories as you get to find out more about her which is great, can't wait for the next one :) xx

I'd love to work in a library, but yeah, can see how it can be really stressful as much as good as it sounds. I used to go to my library a lot when I was younger, but they don't have a good YA section at all, so haven't been for ages and I think they're closing it now, which sucks. :(
