Mexican Kimono by Billie Jones

Samantha knows what she wants from life – and she’s got it!
1.A loving family. OK, her Mum’s plan to marry her off to the world’s most metrosexual man might not be ideal… but it’s only because she cares!
2.A great job. Or at least: a job that leaves plenty of time to update Twitter and shop for designer bargains online…
3.A credit card, with a very generous limit. So generous that she’s just spent over $10,000 on an antique kimono…
But suddenly Samantha’s charmed life starts to fall apart! From a hair-related fire to losing her job, Sam’s facing bad karma – and it all started when she bought that kimono…
Sure, it’s ridiculous. How could a piece of silk ever bring bad luck? But it can! Because, whether Samantha likes it or not, someone wants to teach her a lesson: it’s what’s inside that counts.
But will Samantha slow down long enough to listen?

Samantha is a confident woman. She knows what styling is and she has great taste. She has beautiful hair and a divine figure. When she passes an auction she stops to take a look and starts bidding on a beautiful kimono. The price doesn't matter, she just wants to have it. It costs her $10,000, but that isn't a problem as fortunately there are credit cards. Samantha is a great employee and she always looks fabulous. She does her work so well that she has plenty of time for online shopping. She knows the places to be and she often meets her friends for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. She's always having a good time. Her mother is looking after her and she doesn't normally approve of her opinions, nevertheless they see each other really often and all of Samantha's friends love her. There are also a couple of gorgeous men in her life who are begging for her attention. Last, but not least, everyone wants to be her friend, because she has such an amazing personality. Unfortunately her luck is about to change, only because of the kimono. It's cursed by someone she knows who obviously doesn't like her very much. How can that be? Samantha is always right. Will she be able to discover who's behind it or will her life completely fall apart?
I loved all the characters in this book. Samantha is unbelievably self-centered and has a superb way of reasoning. She made me laugh so hard over and over again. Her friends are a colorful mix of people, they are a part time transvestite, a philosophical hairdresser, a straight gay artist, a musician with blue hair, etc. Samantha is such a helpful friend with her abundance of honest comments. I enjoyed reading this book very much, it's a lot of fun. The story is fast paced and doesn't have any dull moments. There's always something happening, it's one bizarre thing after another. Billie Jones's writing is ingenious and witty. There's no other book like Mexican Kimono. I admire the creativity and think the irony is fantastic. My advice is to buy this book immediately and let yourself be surprised by this fantastic whirlwind.
