By My Side by Wendy Lou Jones & Giveaway

Betrayed by her boyfriend and best friend, Lena is left empty; trapped under a weight of guilt and loneliness. Then, at her lowest point and when she needs it most, a mysterious stranger comes into her life with a tale of friendship, family, and finding love in the most unexpected of places…
Kate Heath is definitely not thinking of love when she comes across consultant, Adam Elliot, berating some poor patient on the ward one day. In fact it is Dr Peter Florin who quickly has everyone’s hearts aflutter with his easy smiles and practised charm.
Yet Kate comes to realise that there’s more to Adam than his determination to push everyone away and it’s not long before she finds herself longing to reach out to touch the man within, healing the pain of his past.
As Lena is drawn into Kate’s story, she begins to learn – just as Kate does- that the course of true love never did run smooth.

Lena's been betrayed by the people she loved the most. Her mother is watching over her and because she doesn't want to leave her daughter alone Lena has to accompany her to a funeral. There a woman sees Lena sitting on her own and she tells her a wonderful love story. It's the story of Kate. Kate is a nurse, who's really good at what she does. She cares about her patients very much and she knows how to make them feel at easy. When one day the new doctor, Adam Elliot, is out of line by being rude to a patient she's telling him off. The distant and cool doctor Elliot intrigues Kate. Slowly they start to get to know each other a little better. Adam is a kind man with a troubled past. Is he the one who can make Kate happy or is another doctor better suited to take that role? The love story fascinates Lena and it's also giving her a tiny bit of hope. Kate's story is a story about true and troubled love. It shows Lena that there is still hope for her, that she can overcome her loss.

I loved By My Side. It's one of the best books I've read this year. The story is so beautiful. Kate is kind and caring. She also isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's a great main character who's going through ups and downs and the reader is going through them with her. Wendy Lou Jones knows how to use tension in her writing. For me that was one of the best parts of this story. What I also really liked was the natural way she writes about medicine. She has a background in that area and she manages to translate that into something that is understandable for every reader without losing any of the hospital's distinctive atmosphere. She shows her readers so much of the lives of the people who are working at a hospital. She's playing with adrenaline in such an admirable way. There's also a lot of chemistry while the story never becomes very graphic, that's another beautiful example of how well Wendy Jones can write. She doesn't need to be explicit to let her readers feel exactly what the characters in her book are going through. Kate's love story is a troubled one with ups and downs. Adam is a complicated man with so many layers and hidden depths which made the story even more interesting. I needed a handkerchief every now and then, because By My Side is a novel that brings both joy and sadness. I definitely want to read this amazing story again.

My family and I went to visit a Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls and it was a wonderfully intimate experience. We could interact with the butterflies, watch them eat, and fly freely in the conservatory. One actually landed on me. It was exquisite. We were in awe of them. Butterflies are beautiful creatures. Thanks for another great giveaway!
