Batter Up by Robyn Neeley

She mixes more than flour and sugar into her cake batter, and he’s about to find out if a little bit of magic is to his taste...
Bakeshop owner Emma Stevens has a secret — a delicious, slightly unorthodox secret. Each Monday, she mixes up a premonition to share with the bachelors of Buttermilk Falls, and sets one lucky man on the path to true love.
When reporter Jason Levine finds himself mixed up in a Las Vegas bachelorette party, he hears the strangest rumour: the marriage is happening thanks to magic cake batter. Seriously sceptical, and sick of frauds, Jason journeys to the backwater town of Buttermilk Falls to expose the baker and release the townspeople from her evil clutches.
But when Jason meets Emma, tempers flare and sparks fly. Will Jason cling to his logic at the expense of a future, or will he let himself fall under Emma’s spell?

Emma creates wonderful magic. Every Monday evening she makes a special batter which predicts who is going to be the one for a very lucky bachelor in Buttermilk Falls. Together with her cousin Abby she runs the bakery. Emma's making other people happy, but what about her own love life? When Jason, a non-believing journalist, visits the town to write an article about Emma and her so called magic he's in for a surprise. Meanwhile Emma's nemesis is there to make things difficult, but that doesn't mean she succeeds in what she does. When Emma manages to enchant Jason things are finally looking up for her. Will the special batter find true love for these people or are things about to go very wrong?
The cover of Batter Up is gorgeous, so I had high expectations when I started reading this novel. I love stories about magic, so Batter Up caught my attention straight away and I couldn't wait to read it. I love being spellbound by a story and that's exactly what happened when I read Batter Up. Emma is a strong woman who has a wonderful secret. I really liked the conversations between Emma and Abby. Their different personalities make them a great duo. Batter Up is all about love and it shows that finding true love isn't always easy. Especially when someone isn't ready for it yet. Jason is a nice guy, but he doesn't always handle things very well. When the things they are hiding have finally been revealed things really change for both him and Emma. Reading about secrets and finding out what they are is always so much fun. The recipe for Batter Up is simple, but great. There's a bit of magic, there are warm friendships, there's a lot of love and all of that has been covered with a sauce of delicious secrets and misunderstandings. Because it's been carried out exactly right the result is a very happy reader.
